Launch of Snowbound & Other Stories

Launch of SNOWBOUND & OTHER STORIES, by Jack Caldwell

Greetings, everyone. Jack Caldwell here.

Over the years, ideas and plots have popped up in my brain that, while amusing or intriguing, are inadequate for a full novel. But I do not allow them to flee unused. Oh no! My muse has full authority to follow those ideas wherever they go.

Usually, these short stories entertain only myself. Those that I have put forward have proven to be well received. On rare occasions, I strike gold and the readers cry out for more. Therefore, instead of ruining the perfection that is a good short story by extending it from its true and natural ending, I chose to package a collection of sixteen of my best in an anthology—SNOWBOUND & OTHER STORIES.

Among them are:

SECOND IMPRESSIONS

WE HAVE MARY KING TO THANK

And the fan favorite—SNOWBOUND!

Many of these stories are variations on Miss Jane Austen’s immortal Pride and Prejudice. And why not? The novel’s plot is immensely enjoyable—its characters so true to life that one can easily see the story run like a movie in their mind. It is a take on the boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl, boy-gets-girl-back scenario but with its own twist. Some call it the enemies-to-lovers trope, but I disagree. Darcy’s and Elizabeth’s trials and tribulations could have been solved very early in the novel if they had just one honest conversation. That they did not—that Elizabeth’s pride and Darcy’s prejudice, along with the social restrictions of the day, kept them from having one until they break those rules at Hunsford—fuel this comedy of manners.

Several of the stories feature earlier conversations that change everything. Food for thought, wouldn’t you say?

The others are takes on the rest of Miss Austen’s novels. Some are funny, some are romantic, and some are tragic.

SNOWBOUND & OTHER STORIES is available in print and on Kindle Unlimited.

It is my earnest desire you have fun with these little gems.

Until next time, this has been the Cajun Cheesehead Chronicles.

It takes a real man to write historical romance, so let me tell you a story…
