Christmas has always held a special, sparkling place in my heart. It’s the one holiday for which I pull out bins upon bins of decorations—far more than any reasonable person should possess, yet somehow never quite enough. I love the glow of lights, the warmth of traditions, and most of all, the stories. It’s also a time to ‘get my crafty on’ and I make all sorts of things, like the stack of ‘presents’ below. Just empty boxes wrapped in pretty paper, but it’ll look cute on my porch!
Christmas stories have a unique magic: a blend of nostalgia, hope, and gentle enchantment that feels like a soft blanket on a cold night.
And for those of us who adore Jane Austen, nothing beats a cozy Pride and Prejudice Christmas variation.
Regency Christmas: A Season Made for Stories
While the Regency era didn’t celebrate Christmas with the extravagance of the later Victorian age, Christmastide was still a cherished season. The Twelve Days of Christmas (December 25–January 6) brought feasting, visiting family, games, dancing, and warm gatherings around crackling hearths.
Storytelling—whether reading aloud, reciting poetry, or sharing folktales—was a beloved pastime during long winter evenings. Families might read from the Bible, from volumes of poetry, or from the growing number of printed novels circulating among the gentry. And although “Christmas novels” as a genre didn’t blossom until later in the 19th century, the season was undoubtedly one of reflection, connection, and imagination.
Which makes it the perfect backdrop for Pride and Prejudice variations.
Cozy Pride & Prejudice Christmas Variations to Enjoy
So, I’ve put together a list of some of my FAVORITE Christmas Austen Variations. Look them up if you want!
- Tis the Season: this is a collection of short stories by multiple authors, and I love it! The cover is gorgeous, and every story is wonderful!
- The Christmas Heiress by Melanie Rachel: This was a book that came out last year, and has Elizabeth inheriting property in Derbyshire! Melanie has a ton of other Christmas stories. Check them out on Amazon!
- How to get Caught Under the Mistletoe by Alix James: ‘When plotting mistletoe mischief, always check for lurking gentlemen—especially the tall, dark, and brooding kind.’ This is another great holiday romp! Alix has a ton of other stories, so look her up on Amazon!
- Miss Bingley’s Christmas by Summer Hanford and Renata McMann: I love a good redemption story. This one features Miss Bingley and gives her a happily ever after!
- A Hopeful Holiday by Heather Moll: This delightful novella is touching and perfect for the Christmas season. Darcy doesn’t return to Hertfordshire after encouraging Bingley to pursue Jane Bennet. Elizabeth wishes he had. They meet again at Lady Catherine’s Christmas masquerade!
- Holiday Machinations by Elizabeth Adams: Lizzy and Jane go to London after the Netherfield ball. What sort of shenanigans might occur?
There are others, but hopefully this short list can get you started on your holiday reading. Make sure you check out the new releases this year! Abigail Reynolds has a new release that hits that holiday spot!
The Christmas Charms Series — My First Holiday Stories
Long before I released my newest Christmas novel, I wrote a quartet of heartwarming holiday tales: The Christmas Charms Series. These were among the first Christmas stories I ever created, and they still hold such a precious place in my heart.
The series includes four books, each weaving romance, magic, and the spirit of the season into a Pride and Prejudice–inspired world. And this year, they received an exciting refresh: brand-new covers beautifully designed by Summer Hanford. Isn’t she SO talented??? I’m absolutely thrilled with how they turned out—they capture the warmth, whimsy, and sparkle I always envisioned for the series.

Christmas is a season of joy, generosity, and stories that linger in our hearts long after the decorations are put away. Whether you love Regency traditions, Austen’s wit, or simply curling up with a cozy romance, I hope these holiday tales bring you as much delight as they bring me. What cozy Christmas JAFF stories do you love? Drop a comment below so I can add them to my TBR list!

Hi M.J,
Beautiful christmas post! I agree with you: Christmas novels have an special magic.
Your stack of presents looks really good, it seems Santa has come to your home! Ah, I´ll have to put the decorations by early December and these wrapped boxes seem a great idea 😉
Thanks for the recommendations of Christmas JAFF stories you give. In fact, I read “Tis the season” last year and I loved it!
And I´m planning to indulge myself these weeks with “Holiday machinations” by Elizabeth Adams.
And, speaking of recommendations I give you “An unexpected merry gentleman” by Anngela Schroeder which is a sweet and fun novella where Gardiner girls (Lizzy´s nieces) are playing mischief in order to join Darcy and their cousin Elizabeth 😉
I love the new covers of your Christmas books by Summer Hanford because they are elegant, fun and colorful (although I also liked the previous ones you chose when they were published).
Have a sweet and cozy reading time!
Teresa
I also like Christmas Variations. The only drawback is: There are so many of them published in such a short time every year, that it’s hard to keep up with them.
Thank you for your recommendations. I already know many, but not all of them.
I like these two variations:
• Mr. Darcy’s Christmas Mishap by Rachelle Ayala (Regency)
• The Cristmas Trade by Iris Lim (modern)
