Big news: The Slipper Scandal is coming to audio, narrated by the wonderful Harry Frost!
Watch for it on Audible starting Wednesday–fingers crossed, everything will pass review and it’ll be available! For now, you can listen to the sample here for free: https://BookHip.com/HQAXWBS
Audible should have the audio available on Wednesday, fingers crossed. I thought it would be today because I don’t know how to differentiate between regular days and business days. Yeah, I’ve got it all together. Which leads me to why I started writing this collection (they are standalone novels, so I’ve been informed that this is a collection and not a series).
Believe it or not, this wasn’t my original writing plan for 2025. I had a serious soul mark fantasy series roughly sketched out. But when I started writing it, I didn’t feel happy. It was all conspiracies and dark secrets. And I realized: for my own mental health, this is not the time to be writing anything dark. I’ve always been the writer who likes to undercut scenes with humor when they start to get too serious. And I’ve always liked the conversational back and forth of E&D.
So I decided that this was in fact the year to lean into that instead.
Enter: P&P rom coms.
I’m talking classic rom com structure—witty banter, misunderstandings, a dash of forced proximity. Not farce, just romantic comedy goodness with empire waistlines and top hats. Think Sleepless in Seattle meets Almack’s. With puns. And just for fun, I decided to make three of them inspired by (not retellings of) fairy tales.
The Slipper Scandal is what happened when I asked myself: “What if Cinderella losing her slipper happened, but I make it a disaster?”
**Author’s note: These are the things I think about when left to my own devices. No sense in denying it.
Anyway, that thought led to a masquerade, a misplaced slipper, and a resentful lord. Suddenly, Elizabeth and Darcy are caught in London’s most delicious Twelfth Night scandal. He wants to do the honorable thing. She wants to escape. Neither realizes they’re fighting a losing battle against chemistry and fate.
Happy sigh.
If you need something light, funny, and yet still emotional (in the best way), this is it. The book is here (and The Briar Bargain is out now, too). Oh, and I wrote a super fun, set-in-modern England P&P Christmas variation too–but I’ll wait to tell you more about that one.
May all your scandals be fictional and your slippers stay firmly on your feet!

Congratulations Melanie! I don’t have audiobooks myself as yet but who knows? At the moment I prefer to read at my own speed with the option of rereading passages at will! As you know I do love your books which are high on my reread list. I’m still trying to catch up on my reading after almost seven weeks in hospital (where I happily reread favourite books!)
I hope you will get around to writing the other story. I am loving all of the soul mark stories!
Yay! I love soulmark stories, and it’s always fun to get more stories on audio.
Well, you know I loved the book, start to finish, so adding a narrator such as Harry only makes it more delicious. Thank you Melanie!
I so enjoyed reading it. I look forward to harry reading it to me on my morning walks.
I can’t wait for the audiobook!!!
