Melanie Rachel is a Jane Austen variation author who believes the only thing better than a dashing hero is one who can handle an independent heroine. With 20+ swoon-worthy Pride and Prejudice variations spanning regency, contemporary, and fantasy settings, she enjoys dreaming up new worlds where Darcy and Elizabeth must navigate unexpected twists to find their happy ending.

When she’s not busy dreaming up her next plot twist, she’s in the virtual classroom, sharing
her love for literature as a Ph.D. in English and a lit professor. Her favorite moment? Watching self-proclaimed “non-readers” discover the magic of reading for pleasure. Off-hours, she’s equally devoted to her two rescue pibbles who are currently staging a backyard renovation project (translation:
digging all the holes) and doubling as interior decorators (translation: chewing everything in sight). When the dust settles, she spends time watching rom-coms and period dramas, sips tea like it’s 1811, and cheers on the Dodgers and the USWNT soccer team. Her family may not understand why she keeps disappearing into the 19th century with Darcy and Elizabeth, but they support her anyway.

Life’s a delightful whirlwind, and Melanie is embracing every chaotic, book-filled, love-soaked, dog-hair-covered moment of it.

Melanie’s Books

One brave act. An unexpected reward.

Sent to a prestigious finishing school to secure their future and that of their family, Elizabeth Bennet and her sister Jane find themselves thrust into a world they are unprepared to navigate. But when a dangerous event turns Elizabeth into a reluctant hero, their situation is dramatically altered.

Fitzwilliam Darcy’s uncle has insisted he finally remain in town for the full season. Ill at ease in London society, he makes a cutting remark about Elizabeth Bennet, a woman he’s barely met. But she is not unprotected, and when an earl demands he make amends, he reluctantly complies.

Darcy is prepared to deal with yet another fortune hunter, but Elizabeth’s kindness towards society’s outcasts and her quiet bravery in the face of adversity slowly wear away his prejudices. As his admiration grows, so does his dilemma. Can he convince Elizabeth to trust him, to see beyond his earlier rudeness and recognize his changed heart? Or will his initial misstep and Elizabeth’s own guarded nature keep them apart?

Someone wants Elizabeth Bennet dead. It’s all Fitzwilliam Darcy’s fault.

Elizabeth Bennet wants the truth from Mr. Darcy. When she follows him from the ballroom to insist upon it, she becomes an unwilling witness to a scandalous scene. And for once, she cannot blame Mr. Darcy for disdaining his company, not even when he departs Netherfield in the middle of the ball.

When Darcy returns to London, he leaves both Miss Elizabeth Bennet and his growing infatuation for her behind–or so he believes. For soon, their paths cross again under the most painful of circumstances.

Elizabeth suddenly finds herself dependent upon Mr. Darcy. With the gradual unveiling of his character, she is surprised by a burgeoning affection for him. Will her heart survive their inevitable parting?

Thrust together out of necessity, Elizabeth and Darcy must discover the culprit responsible for their predicament before they are ruined . . . or worse.

The two Drawing Mr. Darcy books are now together in one collection!

Book One: When Thomas Bennet’s childless aunt and uncle ask that one of his five daughters come to live with them, he knows which girl would most benefit. Years later, Elizabeth Bennet Russell returns to Longbourn having had an unconventional upbringing. She is in possession of an important name, a good fortune, and an artist’s eye.

Drawing helps Elizabeth to literally sketch people’s character, and she’s become rather good at it. But she’s about to face her greatest challenge yet. Netherfield Park is let at last, and her good friend’s much older brother–whom she has yet to meet–has arrived as a guest. It will take Elizabeth more than a drawing to help her understand the confounding Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.

Book Two: For the first time, drawing someone’s portrait has not been enough to understand his character. Although Elizabeth Bennet Russell has sketched Mr. Darcy’s expressions often and with great care, she still cannot figure him out—that is, until he confesses that he has fallen in love with her.

By the time Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy share a dance at the Netherfield Ball, they are well on their way to marriage. Then her cousin, the Marquess of Tavistock, arrives from London with news: Elizabeth’s Aunt Olivia is seriously ill, and there’s been a threat against both Russell women. Will the Russells close ranks, leaving Darcy out in the cold?
