We are so awed by the generous outpouring of support from our readers for Hurricane Dorian relief! So far, you have raised almost $1200 on AmeriCares alone, plus various private donations! Way to go, everyone!
Are you in the potential storm path? We want to hear from you to be sure you’re safe. Would you mind dropping us a note in the comments below to let us know how you are, and if you need help? Samantha Whitman, one of the authors donating to the relief efforts, has already experienced a bit of Dorian’s wrath, and Meredith Esparza, one of our favorite bloggers, is in harm’s way as well. JAFF readers really are the most caring in the world, and we want to know our friends are safe.
If you haven’t heard, six of our AV authors have teamed up to write a relay story to help the fundraising efforts! There will be mayhem, slapstick, out of character behaviour and scandalous situations, but that’s all part of the fun. So far, five chapters have been posted! You can start Chapter One here.
We will be fundraising for just a few more days, so check out the other opportunities to get involved. So many authors and even a JAFF editor have come forward to offer their help and support! Many cameos have been taken, but everything listed on this page is still available for grabs (as of this posting) so jump in and have some fun!
- Get a great book to read while helping hurricane victims! Authors will donate 100% of royalties from the books listed below for the next week (through Sept. 9) to hurricane relief. We may be adding to this list as we reach more of our authors.

How does it work for cameos and critiques? Claim the item you want in the comments, and once the author has confirmed you’re the recipient (authors must confirm your name can work in their book), make a donation to either Habitat for Humanity, Catholic Charities, or Americares* and send a copy of your receipt to the author, or you can donate to Americares through our special fundraising page on Crowdrise. Want something different than what you’re seen here? Make us an offer! If you’re a JAFF writer and want to be part of the fundraiser, we’d be thrilled to have you.
We are encouraging support for the following charities:
AmeriCares via CrowdRise
We’re supporting these particular charities because of their strong track record in providing effective hurricane relief and high ratings on Charity Navigator. Jack Caldwell, our Hurricane Katrina survivor, says, “Really, the folks who helped the most were the religious charities, Christian and Jewish, large and small. Many were individual churches. I can personally vouch for Catholic Charities. One cannot praise too highly the thousands of college students from all over the country who came down to help, sometimes more than once. In the rebuilding phase, Habitat for Humanity was the best national group.”

What a wonderful thing to do.
I’m buying books. Love you guys. Y’all ROCK in my book. Thanks to all the authors that are donating royalties. Bless you, guys. My thoughts are with those bloggers and friends we have online that are in the bulls-eye. You are in our prayers.
Magic!
I gift*myself* with new JAFF to read, and yet I can be considered charitable for buying it? That’s gotta be the best deal ever!
Thank you for your good hearts, JAFF authors!
GOD bless all of you for your generosity. I am praying for the safety of all in Dorian’s path.
We are safe here in Wilmington, NC! Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers and exceedingly generous donations!! <3 <3
Thank you so much for letting us know, Samantha! We’re all thrilled to know you weathered the storm well.
Thanks to all for coordinating this, and to the authors for their generosity! I would love to get a critique from Christina Morland and will donate $300 to Habitat for Humanity in exchange. Also bought one of Abigail Reynolds’s books.
Abigail, thank you so much for your generosity! I would be honored to offer a critique of your work!
You’re very kind! I know that’s a big commitment of time and focus. My Habitat receipt no. is 1112187. Please let me know where to send a MS and whether you want a paper or an electronic copy. (It’s period but not Austenesque, by the way–the first in a series of histfic novels set in rural Surrey in the year 1800. It relates the adventures of a twelve-year-old boy, so a bit of a departure for me! I think you’ll hear the Austenesque echoes, though.)
Sounds fascinating! Very much looking forward to reading your work. You can send the MS to christinamorland.books@gmail.com, and we can discuss logistics via email, if that works for you. Thanks again, Abigail!
I love that the Austen community reaches out in this way to help. Wow!!
Thanks for heading this up, Nicole!!! 😀
Warmly,
Susanne 🙂

It’s a whole team making this work, Susanne! I just got privileged with the task of drafting a few posts. JAFF is the sweetest group of readers and authors anywhere! 💕
