Hello everyone!
I’m here today with the second in our author interview series, the first being when Christina and I sat down for a chat via Google Docs (it worked for us!). More recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down via Zoom with Jack Caldwell.
Jack published his twelfth book Brother of the Bride in December. It is the final book in the five-book Jane Austen’s Fighting Men series (although this is considered the fourth book of the series), and it is receiving rave reviews. As you can see in the blurb below, the ‘brother’ in this case is our dear Darcy.
In 1816, everyone thinks—with the Napoleonic wars over and done—that life in England will be peaceful. Not necessarily.
For four wonderful years, Fitzwilliam Darcy has joyfully lived at his beloved Pemberley with his adored wife, Elizabeth, precious young son, Bennet, and cherished sister, Georgiana, by his side. All this is about to change; Georgiana has fallen in love. In quick succession, the Darcys agree to take in the young and spirted daughter of the widowed Lydia Wickham and then learn that Elizabeth is expecting another child.
Now—with a wedding to plan, a baby on the way, interfering relations invading Pemberley, and a new ward turning the place upside down—the question becomes: How will Mr. Darcy maintain his sanity?
You can read more about the book and several excerpts at Jack’s post from December. Isn’t the cover lovely?
As you’ll hear in the two videos, he and I covered a number of issues—Austenesque most of all, but we touched on what else we like to read—and discovered a shared fondness for science fiction. I won’t spoil any more of it. 😊 Here is Part I.
I apologise for the weirdness with my video. It does settle down after a while, and the good news is that it didn’t affect Jack, and he is why we are here! Enjoy Part II.
I’d like to say a big thank you to Jack for allowing me to interview him. I feel that I got to know him better, and I hope all of you did as well. I look forward to seeing what he has in store for us next!

Maybe it’s just my device but neither video would play!
I’m so sorry, Glynis! I’m not at home at the moment, but I’ll do what I can to look into it. They worked when I set up the interview.
I have read 17 of Jack’s books and enjoyed them.

You’re welcome!
Fascinating thoughts on history and writing, Jack and Lucy! Also, I loved hearing how you think about developing stories. I’m not an outliner at all, but there’s much to learn from you. Thanks so much for this interview!

I find it interesting to compare ways people write. I guess in the end, as long as you don’t end up staring at a blank page/screen not knowing what to write (all the time, at least; I have my moments of doing just that!), then it’s all good. Thanks for watching the interview!
Thank you Lucy, Thank you Jack.
Finally have time to watch these videos.
This is such an interesting interview. Love it.
It is exciting to know that Jack has the plots planning in Excel!! That is almost too satisfying to know.
I find myself nodding and laughing and frowning and questioning during the interview. Such Fun!!
Thank you for sharing this with us.

I’m glad you enjoyed it, Patricia! I had fun interviewing Jack and, among other things, discovering we both are sci-fi fans. 🙂
[…] The lovely Lucy Marin was kind enough to do a video interview of yours truly; it can be found HERE. (It’s my fault it’s so long. You can’t keep a Cajun Cheesehead quiet! Ask my wife.) So, now […]
