Jack Caldwell

Jack Caldwell is an author, amateur historian, professional economic developer, playwright, and like many Cajuns, a darn good cook. His nickname -- The Cajun Cheesehead -- came from his devotion to his two favorite NFL teams: the New Orleans Saints and the Green Bay Packers. (Every now and then, Jack has to play the DVD again to make sure the Saints really won in 2010.) Always a history buff, Jack found and fell in love with Jane Austen in his twenties, struck by her innate understanding of the human condition. Jack uses his work to share his knowledge of history. Through his characters, he hopes the reader gains a better understanding of what went on before, developing an appreciation for our ancestors' trials and tribulations. When not writing or traveling with his wife, Barbara, Jack attempts to play golf. A devout convert to Roman Catholicism, Jack is married with three grown sons.

Ranking Jane Austen’s Heroines

Ranking Jane Austen’s Heroines Greetings, everyone. Jack Caldwell here. As you know, I’m a writer. By definition, that makes me insane. Don’t believe me? Ask any writer if they’re sane. If they say they are, they’re lying. Anywho, as I am insane, I occasionally give in to my innate absurdity by engaging in flights of …

Death & Life – a sequel to P&P and The Three Colonels, by Jack Caldwell

Greetings, everybody! Jack Caldwell here. As you may know, my second published novel, THE THREE COLONELS: Jane Austen’s Fighting Men—a grand sequel to two of Jane Austen’s works: Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility—was originally published on-line. What you may not know is I also wrote a vignette about the characters in that story …

An Excerpt from ROSINGS PARK – Mr. Darcy and Mr. Collins

Greetings, everybody! Jack Caldwell here. As anyone who has read the ground-breaking THE THREE COLONELS (a sequel to both Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility), they know I love to write about Jane Austen’s minor characters, imbuing them with more human feelings, talents, and fallacies. I see them in shades of gray. After all, …
