Summer Fun and a WIP Sneak Peek! by Jennifer Altman

Hello, friends! I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the last few weeks of summer. 🌞

Lately, I’ve seen many of my JAV colleagues sharing stories about their summer adventures, so today, I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and do the same. This time next week, I will be in what I always refer to as “my happy place” and I cannot wait. I’m really looking forward to having some downtime to unwind, relax, and hopefully work on my current WIP. 🤞

So, with that in mind, I thought I’d use today’s post to do two things: First, I’ve decided to give you all a little sneak peek at my next novel with a WIP Top 10 List, and second, I’m going to share some photos of next week’s vacation destination. And just to keep things interesting, instead of actually telling you where I’m going, we’re going to have a little fun. 🙂 If you think you recognize the location from the photographs below, let me know in the comments. Anyone who can correctly identify where these photos were taken will win a free copy of my next book, so give me your best guesses!

But first, let’s find out what I’ve been working on!

Top 10 Facts About My WIP

  1. It’s another Regency era Pride and Prejudice variation.
  2. Darcy meets one of the Bennet sisters five years before P&P canon… but it may not be who you think.
  3. The reader will be introduced to two original characters: Darcy’s close friend and man of business, Mr. Walsh, and Mrs. Gardiner’s brother, Mr. Harper. Both characters play a significant role in the story.
  4. While at Netherfield, Bingley enters into a courtship with a local young lady, but it isn’t Jane Bennet.
  5. In this story, Elizabeth isn’t  always truthful, and Jane shows more spirit than we’re accustomed to seeing.
  6. Caroline Bingley leads Elizabeth to believe something about Darcy that completely alters her perception of him.
  7. Four weddings take place during the course of the story.
  8. Jane and Bingley have a shared interest. (Any guesses as to what that might be?)
  9. In this variation, Mrs. Bennet has set her sights on Mr. Darcy, not Mr. Bingley, as Jane’s future husband.
  10. Darcy has a secret that he will protect at all costs, even if it means leaving England for good.

I hope you enjoyed that little amuse bouche. If I can get some writing done next week, I hope to be able to start sharing excerpts from this story soon! In the meantime, I’ll leave you with some beautiful scenery. Remember to comment if you think you know where this is! (The only hint I’ll give you is that it’s in the United States). 🙂

Thanks for reading!

JA

Oh my! Who did Darcy meet first? 🤔 Who is Bingley courting? 🤔 What is Elizabeth lying about? 🤔 What could be sending Darcy overseas? 🤔 Of all the weddings, is one between Darcy and Elizabeth? 🙏 The answer to the last question just has to be YES! 🤞🏻 By the way the location? I would say it’s somewhere in the USA? (your little hint gave it away 😉🤣😂)

I already feel the angst! Look forward to it Jan. I believe your vacay location is Chautauqua, and if I’m correct, that is the Athenaeum Hotel.

Well, I’ve been to Mackinac Island, but those photos do not look familiar unless the place has dramatically changed in 30 years. I vote Charleston, SC.

It looks like some of the quaint hotels and B&B’s I saw on Mackinac Island, MI. I kept looking for the Grand Hotel (site of “Somewhere in Time” movie with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymore, remember?) You’ve mentioned several deviations you are taking from canon in this next book… a lot of new themes to interweave should make for an interesting story.
