Nefarious Pre-Order Announcement

I shall start off with an apology, because I do not have any amazing Regency recipes to share. However, I have something else that might be fun. Well, a few things, really, and they were cooked up (get it?) by a couple of the most amazing ladies in the world.

The first is the full cover reveal for Nefarious. Janet Taylor has updated the front cover, and the back cover is entirely her own creation. Isn’t it gorgeous? We all know Janet, and how she reads every story and pulls special items out for the back cover, so let your imagination run wild about what those items might mean!

Next: The official blurb!

He hates everything about her.
She despises him even more.
So why is his heart so determined to belong to her?
Once trapped by marriage to a woman he loathed, Fitzwilliam Darcy is finally free again. Resentful, bewildered, and angry, he is eager to begin his life over—preferably with a woman who is the exact opposite of his wife.
He never imagined a short stay in Hertfordshire would bring him face to face with his worst nightmare; a woman similar in face, form, and name. He certainly never expected her to be so impossible to ignore.
Torn between what he believes he wants and what his heart cannot live without, his dignity begins to unravel. Will his desperation to escape his past drive a wedge into his closest friendship and destroy any hope of a future?
Will Miss Elizabeth Bennet prove to be as nefarious as his wife? Or, will the last woman in the world be his only chance at happiness?

And now, the cool part. Yes, the book goes live for pre-order today! Launch date is the 24th, so Jeanne Garrett, that nefarious lady herself, has created a little scavenger hunt to help jog your memory on the first 13 chapters.

Now, here’s the sad news. In preparation for the release, all the posts except the very first chapter will have to come down from the blog. Pull date for those will be May 18, so read fast!

In case you need a listing of all the previous chapters, click here to find them all in one place. Good luck!

Take it away, Jeanne!

I’m a little tired tonight, so I won’t even try to find the answers. However, perhaps I was the first to pre-order. Anxiously awaiting 24 May.

Good luck everyone in the scavenger hunt. Special thanks to Nicole on a fabulous story. I am amazed and still cannot breathe correctly as this launch approaches. I may have to call for my salts. La!! Shades of Mrs. Bennet. I want to thank all the people who have commented over the months while we played with the excerpts. I have had such fun with you guys. Y’all rock. I have already grabbed my pre-order. I couldn’t help myself.

I started to attempt the scavenger hunt, then quickly gave up, as I realised that I always intended buying a copy of the book anyway. So I’ve just pre-ordered it on Amazon.co.uk
Now I just have to wait patiently until May 24th, when I can finally read all this story to my hearts content.

    1. Aw, Sarah, thank you 🥰

The answers to the questions? Yes well, you see this is why I need the book because my memory is atrocious! Maybe after the third, fourth, fifth or sixth reading I could answer one or even two but for now I will wait for my pre ordered copy as I have zero chance of winning one. Plus here in the uk it depends on how I receive a prize book and sometimes it doesn’t include the cover! So obviously I DO know all the answers really but just preferred to pre order 😏😏(phew! I think I got away with that!)

    1. 😂 You crack me up, Glynis! Thank you for the support!

    Clue Number One:

A good hostess knows how guests like their tea. What is Mr Darcy’s preference for the perfect cup of tea?Chapter 7 – Mr Darcy likes strong, darkest and richest tea with only half of the cube of sugar.

“Miss Elizabeth rose to do the honours, serving her sister first. She came next to me, but before she poured my tea, she drew out a single sugar cube and broke it in half with the spoon. She then dropped it into the bottom of my empty cup and poured a second cup beside it for herself. My cup she filled last, so that I received the very darkest and richest tea from the bottom of the pot.”

    2 Clue Number Two:
What was the date and header for Mr Darcy’s entry in his private journal?

    Chapter 5 – “7 October 1812
    Day Two of Enemy Occupation”

    Clue Number Three:

What colour was Miss Bennet’s riding habit?Chapter 9 – Jane was wearing a dark green riding habit with black hat and veil

    4. Clue Number Four: What art had Mr Darcy perfected over the years? In Chapter 2 -Mr Darcy had perfectly avoided the Bngley’s sister’s company. “Avoiding Bingley’s sisters had become something of an art I had perfected over the years.”

    5 Clue Number Five:
After Darcy declared his ‘en garde, Mademoiselle’ what favorite item from his Cambridge days did Elizabeth inadvertently pick up?
Chapter 4 – Samuel Johnson book with a blue satin ribbon

    Clue Number Six:

What four things did Darcy say that he despised about his first wife? (This was not one of his mental musings. He said it out loud.)In Chapter 1 – Mr Darcy said over his deceased wife’s tombstone – “I despised your voice, the colour of your hair, that twisted smile and even your very name!”

    Clue Number Seven:

During the Netherfield Ball, what were the three things Wickham called Darcy’s wife while they were on the outside balcony? In Chapter 13 -Mr Wickham called the Mr Darcy’s deceased wife as” he took to wife the single most disagreeable, pernicious and vulgar woman in all England and the known world”

Mr Wickham also called her fetching, with a lovely hair but a black-hearted witch.

    8 Clue Number Eight:
In what way does Miss Caroline Bingley say she likes Miss Elizabeth?

In Chapter 4 Ms Bingley stated that “ “I thought her quite a hoyden as well, but an entertaining one, to be sure.”
She likes her as she is entertaining.

Also in Chapte 6 – Caroline stated “ “Like her? Well, of course I like her, in the very same way that a Whig likes a Tory, or the English like the French. They are a respectable adversary, a perfect contrast, and one in whose presence our own qualities are so markedly set off. What distinction should there be in ourselves, had we not such an opposite?”
Mrs Hurst applauded. “Well said, Caroline! But I do think it rather unfair that you should tease her so. After all, she is only a simple country girl. She cannot know with whom she has to deal.”

“Oh, quite the contrary, I think she does. That is why I like her so well. She is clever, and if you ask me, she fancies herself my equal. I find engaging wits with her to be rather stimulating.”

    Clue Number Nine:

What was Miss Elizabeth’s response when Sir William Lucas tried to get her to dance with Darcy?

Chapter 3 – This is Elizabeth’s response to Sir Lucas “I thank you, Sir William, but I am not inclined to dance. Please do not suppose that I moved this way in search of a partner.”

    Clue Number Ten:

What had Caroline done to the guest room in welcome for Miss Georgiana? In chapter 8 -Ms Bingley decked Miss Georgiana’s rooms with flowers – irises, orchids, jasmine and geraniums

    2. Chapter 5 – “7 October 1812, Day Two of Enemy Occupation”

    3. Chapter 9 – “She wore a dark green riding habit that fitted in all the right places and accentuated all her most remarkable features.”

    4. Chapter 2 – “Avoiding Bingley’s sisters had become something of an art I had perfected over the years.”

    5. Chapter 4 – A book his father gave him. “Did Elizabeth Bennet realise, as she so blithely chose a book from the side table, that the simple act had confirmed her villainy in my eyes? Naturally, she could not know that it was a particular favourite of mine that I had brought from London—a gift from my father upon my twenty-first birthday. But devil take it, she ought to have seen the bookmark and understood that someone else was reading it. And when she twirled the blue satin ribbon from my Cambridge days round her fingers as she read, did she comprehend why my responses to everyone else’s conversation suddenly became clipped and irascible?

    6. Chapter 1 – There were so many things he said he despised so not sure which quote… ““You, with your second-rate arts and allurements, your studied charm, and the way you teased—as if a bit of whimsy and flirtation were sufficient to secure me!” or ““Their behavior, connections, interests… yes interests… all deplorable.”

    7. Chapter 13 – “the single most disagreeable, pernicious, and vulgar woman in all England””

    8. Chapter 6 – ““Like her? Well, of course I like her, in the very same way that a Whig likes a Tory, or the English like the French. They are a respectable adversary, a perfect contrast, and one in whose presence our own qualities are so markedly set off.”

    9. Chapter 3 – ““Indeed, sir, I have not the least intention of dancing. Miss Bingley, however, would make an exquisite partner, do you not agree, Sir William?”

    10. Chapter 8 – “Miss Bingley, in an effort to show herself the welcoming hostess, had decked the room in an assortment of hothouse flowers. Irises, lilies, orchids, massive sprays of jasmine and geraniums—it gave me a headache just to walk in the door.
