Mr. Wickham’s Wanderings: A Timely Reminder

Friends, it’s now just a matter of weeks until the Jane Austen Festival returns to the delightful city of Bath. My name shall, of course, be on a few lips this year thanks to the endeavours of my erstwhile editor, Catherine Curzon, and a gentleman whose name is forever associated with mine, Adrian Lukis.

No doubt the occasions will prove suitably illuminating, and tickets are selling fast!

Mr Wickham and Mrs Clarke: 17th September 2018, 12:15 pm-1:15 pm

Meet the militia Jane Austen knew and lift the lid on the scandal of Mary Anne Clarke, the mistress of the Duke of York and a woman who sold commissions at mate’s rates to her gentlemen callers. Mary Anne ruined at least one reputation and left the royal family reeling. It’s a story that any budding Mr Wickhams would do well to learn from. Book tickets here.

In Conversation with Adrian Lukis: 21st September, 12.30pm-1.30pm

Join Adrian Lukis, known to audiences worldwide as Pride and Prejudice‘s dashing Mr Wickham, in conversation with author, Catherine Curzon. Familiar to viewers from Pemberley to Downton and beyond, Adrian will recall his experience filming the iconic BBC adaptation, as well his long and varied career on stage and screen. Book tickets here.

My goodness! How scandalous! How safe would a lady be in attending?

    1. As safe as she might wish to be!

Carole, it should be quite safe, at the latter performance anyway. Last year, I spent an hour or two in the same room as the aforementioned gentleman (in his guise as Mr. Lukis) and came out unscathed at the end! In fact, it was at the very event featured in the photo above! It was a very enjoyable way of spending what was a very miserable, wet Sunday afternoon in March 2017.

    1. A gentleman in every sense of the word!
