Lucy Marin

Toronto, Canada

Lucy Marin developed a love for reading at a young age and whiled away many hours imagining how stories might continue or what would happen if there was a change in the circumstances faced by the protagonists. After reading her first Austen novel, a life-long ardent admiration was borne. Lucy was introduced to the world of Austen variations after stumbling across one at a used bookstore while on holiday in London. This led to the discovery of the online world of Jane Austen Fan Fiction, and soon after, she picked up her pen and began to transfer the stories in her head to paper. Her first novel, Being Mrs Darcy, was published in March 2020. It was quickly followed by many other novels and novellas, including most recently the modern A Pinch of Salt and Regency era His Family Objects in the first half of 2024. Her latest book, The Art of Apology, was published in November 2024. There is more in store for 2025!

Christmas at Blackthorn Manor–Excerpt

Hello everyone! What a year for holiday JAFF! Do you suppose it is because of how challenging the last year and a half has been? Today, I am sharing an excerpt from my new Christmas novella, Christmas at Blackthorn Manor. It came out in e-book format (and through Kindle Unlimited) on 25 October, and is …

Elizabeth & Darcy’s Happy Meeting

Hello everyone! I found this old vignette while digging through my files recently. I posted it online years ago. I can’t remember when, but I have a vague recollection of wanting something easy and happy. I’ve cleaned it up a bit, but I warn you, I did then things I never would now, namely head-hopping …

Elizabeth Takes a Walk

Good day! The monthly theme for August is ‘Up the Garden Path’. My vignette is loosely based on it, and I drew inspiration from my nifty little Nancy Drew book once again. This time the quote I choose is “The best way to clear one’s mind is to commune with nature” from The Hidden Staircase. …

Elinor Seeks Solace in a Maze

Hello everyone! This month’s theme is “Caught in a Maze”, and I decided to use it as inspiration and see what I could come up with for a vignette. Having no real ideas, I thought I’d finally do something I’ve been considering for months and use a prompt from this amusing little book that was …

Blossoming Love: The Recovery of Fitzwilliam Darcy bonus scene

Hi everyone, When I was editing The Recovery of Fitzwilliam Darcy, I wrote several scenes to show more of Elizabeth and Darcy (‘William Lucas’) when they were younger. This one did not make it into the book, and when the monthly theme of ‘blossoming love’ was chosen, I immediately thought about it. It takes place …

Being Mrs Darcy Deleted Scene

Hello everyone, Back in March, the monthly theme here at Austen Variations was comeuppance. I had a perfect scene from Being Mrs Darcy in mind for it, but at the time I was sharing news about The Recovery of Fitzwilliam Darcy and never got around to posting it. I thought that I would now. This …

Brunch at the Midtown, or How Elizabeth and Darcy met on Mother’s Day

This is a vignette I wrote a few years ago in celebration of Mother’s Day. I hope you enjoy it! The Bennets A few hours and it will be over. It is such a gorgeous day. A bike ride through the ravine. That will be my reward for being the good daughter, Elizabeth promised herself. …

Sonnets and Bonnets

I have to admit that I have never been much of a poetry reader, and asking me to write a poem is liable to send me into a panic. But I decided to jump right into the Sonnets and Bonnets theme and see what I could come up with. One type of poetry I  enjoyed …

The Recovery of Fitzwilliam Darcy now available!

It’s publication day! For this celebratory post, I thought I would do something a little different and share some insights into the characters from The Recovery of Fitzwilliam Darcy. One of the things I love about writing Austen variations is imagining how a change in circumstances results in changes to our beloved characters. I can’t …
