Audiobook Release! by Jennifer Altman

Hi, all! I hope your spring is off to a good start!

Today, I have two very exciting announcements to make. The first is that my most recent novel, Faults of Understanding is finally available in audiobook, narrated by the talented Stevie Zimmerman!

A big thank you to everyone who has read the book already, but whether you have or not, I hope you’ll give the audio version a try! Stevie does such a wonderful job of bringing a story to life, it’s almost like experiencing it for the first time, so I don’t think you’ll be disappointed! If you’d like to purchase your very own copy (or listen to a sample), you can do so HERE. You can also find the book blurb below.

“I have faults enough, but they are not, I hope, of understanding.” –Mr. Darcy, Pride and Prejudice

When Fitzwilliam Darcy makes an impetuous offer of marriage to Miss Elizabeth Bennet, he is convinced they have as good a chance as any for a harmonious life together. That is, until an overheard conversation changes everything, and Darcy realizes he is now joined in perpetuity to a woman who loathes the very sight of him.

Elizabeth Bennet’s expectations for matrimonial accord were never very high, having accepted Mr. Darcy’s proposal in a fit of pique, not love. Still, she is determined to make the best of her situation, despite having tied herself to such an arrogant, disagreeable man.

But life at Pemberley is not at all what she imagined, and Elizabeth soon finds herself with more questions than answers about the enigmatic gentleman she agreed to wed.

Trapped in a marriage founded on misunderstandings, Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth Darcy struggle with deepening attraction while confronting self-doubt and old betrayals. But is love enough to heal the wounds of the past? What will it take for two people bound by duty to find their way home to one another?

The second announcement is slightly more personal.  🙂 For those of you who have read the book, you may remember that there is a very special pooch who plays a significant role in the story. Well, in an unforeseen example of life imitating art, I recently became a first-time dog-mom to a Cavapoo puppy! Her name is Penny and she is almost four months old. And even though I grew up with dogs, this is my first time doing this solo, as an adult… and let me tell you, it’s a thousand times harder than I expected. Good thing she’s cute!

So, to celebrate my audiobook release (and my puppy!), I’m giving away five Audible promo codes to five lucky winners! To enter the drawing, please leave a comment below. You can comment about anything, but I’d especially love to hear your puppy stories! 🙂 (And bonus points for any advice you can give a new puppy mom!). I’ll be drawing the winners on April 1st so you can comment any time until March 31st.

Until next time, happy listening!

JA

Congratulations on both!! Puppy looks so cute and audio book sounds amazing.
Don’t add me to to the drawing, I just picked up my version from Amazon.

    1. Thanks so much, Sam! I hope you enjoy it! 🙂

We just adopted a puppy this weekend!! Black lab mix named Oliver and he’s adorable.

    1. Aww… Yay! How old is he? I hope you’re having an easier time than I am! Mine is exhausting! But it gets a little easier every day. Just can’t wait for the potty training to be over with and for the chewing to stop. I swear, Penny is part shark! Thanks for stopping by and best of luck with the giveaway! 🙂

Penny is a doll!! Congratulations on becoming a puppy mom! Poodles are very intelligent AND don’t shed!! I don’t know about Cavs but they’re gorgeous! Congratulations on the new book too!

    1. Thanks so much, Roxey! Yes, growing up we had a cockapoo and then a purebred poodle. Both were very smart and no shedding (although our poodle was a little nuts, LOL). This is my first cavapoo. I only became aware of the this breed recently, but they are so cute! Hopefully she’ll be a good dog. Just can’t wait to get past the puppy stage. 🙂 Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the giveaway!

You couldn’t have found a better narrator than Stevie Zimmerman, but then you already know that from “To Conquer Pride”! Although “Faults” has been out a while, I am glad it’s finally gone audio. Stevie is perfect with her voice characterizations and has Darcy, Elizabeth, Bingley, Mrs. Bennet et. al. down “pat”. Congratulations on adopting Penny. She is adorable and will soon fill your heart with love…pets are that way, aren’t they?

    1. Thank you so much, Linda! Yes, Stevie is great! Believe it or not, I have not heard this audiobook yet! But I’m excited to listen. She did an amazing job with To Conquer Pride, so I’m sure this one will be just as good. Yes, pets are the best. I grew up with dogs but never felt like I could devote the necessary time (not to mention money!) on one of my own. But since I’m now working remotely, I was finally able to make it happen. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and best of luck with the giveaway!

My puppy is 14 years old. He is a Cairn Terrier and so cute. He sits at my feet while I read or listen to audiobooks. His name is Scout. I have read Faults and now plan to listen. Thank you!

    1. Yay! I hope you enjoy the audiobook! I haven’t even heard it yet myself, but I know Stevie always does a wonderful job. Scout sounds lovely! I hope Penny will be my reading/writing buddy someday. Right now she’s a busy little puppy, but I’m sure she will settle down someday, LOL. Best of luck with the giveaway!

Penny is the cutest thing I’ve seen lately. And I needed a good dose of that. Those cute, cute paws… And these colors…
I had a black poodle years ago and he was a real prince–meaning: spoiled, snobbish, and expecting to be served. 😛
    But truly adorable!
So, congrats on both the new audiobook release (!!!) and getting Penny into your life!!!

    1. Aww… Thank you so much, Alexandra! I had a black cockapoo and then a grey poodle growing up. The cockapoo was so sweet. Our poodle was a little nuts, LOL, but we loved him. I knew I wanted some sort of poodle mix. No shedding, fluffy, and super smart. Right now Penny is a handful, but I think she’ll be a great dog once she grows out of the puppy stage. Fingers crossed anyway! 🙂

Penny is adorable. I have not had dogs in nearly 25 years but am planning on choosing one after I move. Thank you for the generous giveaway.

Wishing you as well as your Darcys hey canine parenthood 🐕🐶 🐕

      1. Thank you! 🙂 Best of luck in the giveaway!

    1. Thank you, Debbie! I haven’t had a dog in over years myself! And never as an adult. Let me tell you, it’s A LOT harder than I anticipated. But it gets a little easier every day, and they give you so much affection and are endlessly entertaining. What breeds are you looking at? Whatever you decide, I hope you love him or her as much as I love Penny. 🙂 Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the giveaway.

    Penny!!!
Unless it comes from Ulysses’ Penelope… I should have expected better from you, godmother to the fictional Harp! 🤪🤓

Kidding of course – she is adorable! And still very much a baby! I don’t have a pooch anymore (had to put her to sleep at 14yo, some 16 months ago), but we do have 3 cats!!

Congratulations for the audiobook – I prefer kindle for now, but I know how many people will be just happy for the new release!!

I confess also being all excited – thought somehow that the second piece of news would be about your new story ☺️ (*hint hint hint*)

Loved your post, perfect for my afternoon coffee☕

    1. LOL! Let me tell you, coming up with a puppy name is HARD! I had a whole list and still didn’t settle on a name for her until I’d had her for two full days. I was calling her “girlfriend” LOL! Honestly, I thought I was going to end up with a boy, so I didn’t have many girl names on the list. (Bingley was on there, if I did get a boy!). But now she just seems like a “Penny” so I can’t really imagine her being called anything else. What was your pooch’s name? I’m sorry you lost her. I was devastated when both of my childhood dogs died. That’s the worst part of being a pet parent. Also, sorry for getting your hopes up with this post! I’ve had to take a hiatus from writing due to puppy parenthood but hope to be back at it again soon! 🙂

Sure, blame it on the poor puppy!!!
        Really, dear Jennifer ?🤪

As for my own “girlfriend”, she was a golden retriever who never understood that at 60 pounds she couldn’t climb on my lap anymore!, and named Vivi (short for Vivienne)

        Till soon!

Unfortunately I don’t have any puppy stories as both my husband and son are allergic to dogs. But I did really enjoy reading Faults of Understanding and I would love to be entered into the drawing.

    1. Thank you, Cyndy! I’m glad you enjoyed the book! My mom is allergic to dogs as well, but seems to be okay with poodles and poodle mixes. She hasn’t been around Penny yet but hoping she will be okay with her! Thanks for stopping by and best of luck with the giveaway!

My husband and I pampered a wheaten coated miniature female dachshund for 16 years and openly acknowledged to any and all that she was in charge of our household. Whether your new baby is granted that lofty role is entirely your decision, of course, but should you be inclined to resist, do not repine when the inevitable occurs and you discover yourself wondering “what would Penny prefer” when faced with ANY decision that could discombobulate her comfort or routine!!!

Call it weakness, if necessary. But there are many worse ways to go about your days than indulging a being that gives you unconditional love.

    And, besides…she is perfectly adorable!

    1. Aww… Thank you, Cathy! Penny already has me wrapped around her paw, LOL. 🙂 I was actually considering a miniature long haired dachshund, but my mom is allergic to dogs, so I ended up deciding to go with a poodle mix instead. Thanks for sharing your puppy wisdom, and best of luck with the giveaway! 🙂

  1. Congratulations on your new babies, both book and pup! Puppies are awesome, but they are hard work too.

    1. Thank you, Ceri! Yep, they certainly are hard work! A lot more than I bargained for, but it gets a little easier every day. Right now I can’t wait to get out of the puppy stage… although I’m sure I’ll miss certain things when she’s all grown up.

Loved the book and picked up the Audiobook yesterday. Can’t wait to listen to Stevie Zimmerman’s performance. She always excels. I love your puppy! So cute. My puppy will be 11 later this year. He was easy to train because we already had another dog and so just followed him outside every time. They truly become a family member. Congratulations on the audio release. I loved the book too. No need to enter me into the giveaway, as I now have both versions of the book.

    1. Thanks so much, Marie! I’m so glad you enjoyed the book! I hope the audiobook meets expectations. 🙂 Believe it or not, I haven’t heard it yet myself… but I know Stevie always does an excellent job. Regarding the puppy… I’ve actually heard of a lot of people getting a second dog to keep the first one company, LOL. And they do say the second is easier because they learn from the first. Penny definitely needs some more puppy playdates! Right now, she is very curious about other dogs, but she doesn’t quite know how to interact with them. Planning to put her in doggy daycare for some socialization once she’s fully vaccinated. Hopefully the other dogs there will help to teach her what’s what. 🙂

Very cute, indeed! I had not heard of the breed before, and was inspired by your photos to look up some information about the dog.

I have read “Faults of Understanding” and I look forward to enjoying the audio version.

    1. Thank you, Lillie! I only became aware of the breed a few years ago. Someone I know posted a picture of her brother’s puppy on Facebook, and it was honestly the cutest dog I’d ever seen. Learned it was a Cavapoo and decided that was the breed I’d get if I ever got a dog. And here we are! I actually had a Cockapoo growing up and he was great. Cavapoos are very similar, except they are supposed to have less energy. Fingers crossed on that! Thanks for stopping by and best of luck in the giveaway!

I can easily picture Penny being Georgianna’s dog because her brother would want hunting dogs. Now you realize all the work that your parents did with the dogs you grew up with. Stevie Zimmerman’s reading has never disappointed me. I love audiobooks as they encourage me to walk. Thank you for this generous giveaway and a pat on the head for Penny.

    1. Aww… Thank you, Eva! Penny appreciated the extra affection. 🙂 Yes, I always knew a puppy would be a lot of work, but you never really understand it until you’re doing it yourself! Best of luck with the giveaway and I hope you enjoy the audiobook. Thanks to Penny, I’ve been getting A LOT of walking in myself these days!

Congratulations on this new audiobook. I loved this book and would like to hear it in a new way. I’m currently listening to another book by Stevie Zimmerman and am amazed at the different experience it brings.

    1. Thank you, TC! I know what you mean! Hearing it read aloud (especially in a lovely British accent) adds a whole new dimension to the story. 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoyed the book. Hopefully the audio version will be just as good. Best of luck with the giveaway!

I’m excited this is being released on audiobook. Congrats on your new addition. Can’t really offer advice as my son is terrified of dogs so no puppies for us.

    1. Thank you! I hope you enjoy the audiobook. 🙂 Maybe your son will grow out of the fear. I actually know someone who was terrified of dogs and actually got a puppy (a Cavapoo, actually!) to help her get over the fear. And it worked! But she’s an adult. 🙂 Wishing you the best of luck with the giveaway!

I am so happy of the audiobook. I love the book and Stevie is the best for it I’m sure.

    Happy Parenting!

    1. Thanks so much, Patricia! Penny is a lot of work, but she already makes me so happy! 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the book, and hope the audio version is just as entertaining. Stevie always does such a great job! Wishing you the best of luck with the giveaway!

    Hi Jennifer,
Congratulations on the audiobook release. I’ve been looking forward to this release and having Stevie Zimmerman as the narrator is so awesome. She is my favorite narrator. Your puppy Penny is adorable. I’m sure you will have many years of fun as a dog mom. Pets are a lot of work, but so worth it. You’ll have to post some updates as she grows!! Thanks for the giveaway. –Leslie

    1. Thank you so much, Leslie! Yes, I love Stevie’s work. I’m so glad I was able to get her as my narrator! Penny is exhausting, but already so worth it. I’ll just be happy when she outgrows some of the puppy behavior! I will definitely share some updates as she grows. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, and best of luck with the giveaway!

I love Stevie Zimmerman, one of the few voice actors that I will search for, then look at the titles!

    1. Thank you, Sarah! I’m rather fond of her, myself. 🙂 And yes, Stevie does great work! I’m so glad I was lucky enough to get her to narrate again for me. Thank you for commenting and best of luck in the giveaway.

Congratulations on the audiobook and that Stevie has narrated it for you and also congratulations on your new family member!

    1. Thank you so much, Glory! Wishing you the best of luck in the giveaway! I hope you enjoy the book!

  2. Thank you for sharing these terrific news, Jennifer. Congratulations on the audiobook release of Faults of Understanding and becoming a mom to your new puppy! I love dogs too but sad to say I don’t own one because my mum dislikes pets we are staying together. I took my friends’ dogs for walks when they were still alive and I missed them very much. I hope some day I will have my own dog to care for. Until that time comes, I just have to be contented with the neighbourhood’s dogs who are mostly friendly and love to be patted.

I am not fond of audiobooks so you don’t have to enter me for the giveaway. I don’t hope for much but if you can exchange it for the e-book format, I would be delighted.
