‘We have now another girl, a present plaything for her sister Cassy and a future companion. She is to be Jenny.” – George Austen on Jane Austen’s birth.
No one could have possibly missed that today is Jane Austen’s 250th birthday. And I’m celebrating with presents for you – my biggest freebie ever plus some exciting giveaways!
I had great plans for this post about the significance of the day, but the world and the internet are drowning in that sort of thing right now. So I’m just going to say that if Jane Austen hadn’t been born 250 years ago, my life would have been very different, from the college I chose, the lifelong friends I made there, and all the comfort and pleasure I had from constantly re-reading her books. And that’s before I accidentally ended up writing Austenesque fiction. Happy Birthday, Jane!
I can’t give Jane Austen a present, so instead I’m heaping gifts on you, her readers. Everybody gets 4 free e-books, plus I’m giving away lots of Jane Austen ornaments (US only, sorry) and e-books of my new Christmas novella, Under the Netherfield Mistletoe (international). I’ve never done such a big freebie, but it is a very special day!
First, the giveaways! Six lucky commenters will get one of these beautiful Jane Austen ornaments, designed and printed by my daughter. Another three commenters will get an ebook of Under the Netherfield Mistletoe. Tell me which one you want, or if it’s either one. Comment both here and at my blog for two chances. Mention which of my books is your favorite for an extra chance!
Here are the books everyone can get for free today. Some are Amazon only, some are available widely. Please check prices before you download – I can’t guarantee that every retailer has adjusted the price!
Mr. Darcy’s Journey – Darcy must rescue an imprisoned friend, but he didn’t count on having Elizabeth Bennet in his carriage! Amazon only through 12/19
The Darcys of Derbyshire – Elizabeth is shocked when the man she had bitterly refused offers to accompany her on a walk up the Black Rocks near Matlock. But that’s nothing to the surprise of hearing the story of his parents’ courtship – especially as it makes her see Darcy in a completely new light. Amazon only through 12/19
Conceit & Concealment – Free everywhere but Amazon, $0.99 at Amazon. Mr. Darcy might have rescued Elizabeth Bennet, but she despises all traitors, and that includes Darcy. It’s been 5 years since Napoleon invaded England and imposed a French military rule. Little does she know he has a secret mission, and she’s about to be caught up in an astonishing and romantic adventure that will save her country. Free everywhere except Amazon including Kobo, Apple Books, Tolino and more through 12/20. Since Amazon wouldn’t price match, I put it on sale for $0.99 there.
The Darcy Brothers – Theo Darcy is everything his disapproving elder brother, Fitzwilliam, is not—charming, easy-going, and full of fun. A tragic event as children severed their bond of friendship, but now they are together again. They are still at odds, though, this time over the love of Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Which one will she choose? This fun and heartwarming tale features the popular Theo Darcy. I co-wrote it with four talented writers – Monica Fairview, Maria Grace, Cass Grafton, and Susan Mason-Milks – and it has a special place in my heart. Free everywhere including Amazon, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Tolino, and most other online booksellers through 12/20
Note: None of these books contain mature scenes.
Don’t forget to comment if you’d like a Jane Austen ornament or an e-book of Under the Netherfield Mistletoe! Entries close Dec. 22. And Happy Birthday to Jane!

Ornament please. 🙂
Lol, you know my favorite. I was at Falmouth Museums on the Green 12 days and mentioned to my seat neighbor the Nobska vs Nauset cover topic 🙂 And your fantastic answer when I asked about that.
Thank you Abigail
I have them all except your newest novella which is waiting on my pile of unread books to be read !
Have a peaceful time
Doris
Wow! Brilliant birthday giveaway many thanks. Novella e-book please as based in the UK
Happy Happy Birthday Jane! It is also my mother’s birthday today! 🥰
Thank you so much for gifting us with your books and your talent.
I would love an Ebook of Netherfield Under the Mistletoe if possible! Thank you so much Abigail and Merry Christmas to you and your family x
I would love to win Under the Netherfield Mistletoe. Thank you and Happy Birthday Jane!
Thanks for the free books, but I’m afraid I already purchased them all when they first came out!
Thank you very much for your generosity. I already have all 4 free e-books. 🙂 It would be wonderful to have the novella Under the Netherfield Mistletoe e-book. Thanks again.
What a generous giveaway! I’d like to enter my name for the ebook giveaway, please.
It’s strange to think of the difference that a little girl born 250 years ago has made to so many lives! I’ve spent many delightful hours in the company of her books, and in the company of her characters in books that other people such as yourself have written. My favourite book of yours is still ‘Mr Darcy’s Obsession’. It was the first Variation that I read that really sucked me into the genre. I loved seeing the characters take a different path.
Hi Abigail, and thanks for doing this! Please enter me for the e-book.
Of all your books I think my favorite has to be A Matter of Honor. It’s so well researched and I felt I was learning a lot about Scotland as I read it. Also I loved Jasper!
One thing all your download options has reminded me is that I wish there was an app that would track all the books I have in all the reading apps. I’m always a bit shocked and surprised to open Cobo or Apple Books or Google Play which I don’t open very often and be reminded just how many books I’ve downloaded to there instead of two you know the big one. I know I’ve duplicated some over the years as well.
I’m not going to try to name a favourite. I know if I start scrolling around and all my apps trying to figure out which one is my favourite I’m just going to get distracted and start reading. I don’t have time for that today. I have to bake a birthday cake for Jane Austen.
Thanks for the awesome giveaway! I’d like to be entered for the e-book. I love all your books, but my fav might be To Conquer Mr Darcy.
I have enjoyed reading many of your books, so picking a favorite is a bit tough. However, I did listen to Spellbound recently and really enjoyed it. I just need to find time to listen to the rest in that series! I would love to be entered into the drawing for the Jane Austen ornament. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for the ebooks. I’d be happy with an ebook or an ornament. My favorites of your books are To Conquer Mr. Darcy and Conceit and Concealment. Thanks again!
Thank you for the free e-books, how kind and generous.
For other UK readers, the link goes to Amazon.com, but if you type the name of the book into Amazon.co.uk they’re free there too (Conceit and Concealment is 77p).
Abigail, please may I be entered into the draw for an ebook of Under the Netherfield Mistletoe? The ornaments are gorgeous but I’m not eligible.
Thank you!
Hi Abigail!
Thanks for being SO generous in this 250 aniversary!! WOW, how many gifts for janeites!!!
I didn´t have any of the 4 ebooks you give us so I´m really happy to download them (including the almost free “Conceit and concealment”) THANKS, THANKS A LOT!
And for the giveaway, as I´m from Spain (greetings from Madrid!) I would like your new christmas novella “Under the Netherfield mistletoe”!
I haven´t read any of your books yet (what a shame! LOL) but I have “A matter of honor” waiting for me in my TBR (I chose it because I love everything of Scotland in spite of not having been there) plus the first volume of the Magic Guardians and… the four novellas you have gifted us today so, I know 2026 will be my Abigail Reynold´s reading year!
You are right when telling how many things Jane Austen have done for future generations (even when she didn´t suspect her legacy would be so great) because, for example, thanks to her, now we are talking about many things related to Austen and sharing a beautiful community of readers and authors 😉
Thanks a lot and have a beautiful day (I´m wearing a sweater with an illustration of Jane Austen´s novels together in a pile: my homage to her)
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I would like to have Under the Netherfield Mistletoe
My favorite, so far, is A Fortunate Compromise
Thank you again!
Thank you for the books! Please enter me for the ornament.
I would love an ornament to add to my Jane inspired tree. I own many of your books. Thanks for adding to the celebration.
Please enter me to the ebook. Thank you!
I have most of them, but I’m grateful not only for myself, but for the other happy readers. I’d like to try my luck in the e-book giveaway.
This is very generous! But the occasion, I grant you, deserves it!
Happy Birthday to Jane without which we would not have this joy.
I own all of your books – and for the ornament, while lovely, alas, I am in France 🙂
As for the favourite? Longtime it has been The Last Man in the World. Overtaken recently by Mr Darcy’s Refuge.
Happy Holidays!
I have really enjoyed many of your books so it’s hard to pick a favorite! I think I will choose Spellbound At Pemberley for now though. I would love to win either one. Thanks so much for the giveaway!
Thank you for the books. Happy birthday, Jane!
I would like a copy of Under the Mistletoe, please!
Abigail, I think your books were what turned me into a JAFF junkie! to prove my point, I actually own (as much as Kindle allows one to own) all of these older books.
thanks for sharing your creations with us
Happy Birthday to dear Jane
Thank you for the free e-books. I had all but one of them, so I was able to pick that one up.
My favorite book of yours is A Matter of Honor. I especially liked Colonel Fitzwilliam’s story arc in this one, as well as the story of his wayward brother.
For the current give-away, I would love an e-book of Under the Netherfield Mistletoe!
Thank you for being such an excellent and prolific writer!
I was dazzled by the story and detail in Conceit and Concealment, so that’s my current favorite of yours.
I would love an e-book of Under the Netherfield Mistletoe.
Abigail, I have just begun to read Austenesque fiction in 2025 (specifically P&P) and I love the variations with the characters I so enjoy. I love your book Mr. Darcy’s Refuge. If by chance I am selected to win, I would love the Christmas ornament. I most recently read and enjoyed your novella, Under the Netherfield Mistletoe. Thank you!

Happy Birthday Jane! If you only knew how much joy your books have given to so many people throughout the world. If you only knew how much we love the characters you have created inspiring others to take up their ‘pen’ and provide so many people throughout the world with further joy. Abigail, you are one those who was a early pioneer in this field. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
As for a favourite of yours, it is hard to pick, so I will mention some of my absolute favourites: Conceit and Concealment, Mr. Darcy’s Enchantment, and the Price of Pride. Also loved The Darcy Brothers!
I would love a chance at winning your new Christmas novella, Under the Netherfield Mistletoe.
All the Best!
My favorite book by you is Mr Darcy’s Noble Connections.
I’d prefer the ornament. It is my top choice. (It is beautiful!) If not I’ll be ok with the book
Happy Birthday Jane!
I would love to receive your ebook “Under the Netherfield Mistletoe. I loved reading ‘A Matter of Honor’ where, as always, ODC get their HEA.
I would love the e-book! Thanks for the other four books!
I would like the ornament as I have read the book. Thank you for a chance to win.
Under the Netherfield Mistletoe, please.
Thank you for the books!
I wonder what Jane would say if she could see how she has changed the world? If she only knew all of the authors she has inspired? And all the Hallmark movies! 🙂 Thank you and Jane for providing your readers a place to escape from the insanity of every day life. I have all of your books. My favorites change depending on the day. Right now I am rereading Mr Darcy’s Refuge.
Thank for your generosity. I would love to win either the ornament or the ebook. My favorite book is To conquer Mr Darcy.
I’d love a chance to win an ornament, Thank you!
It’s hard for me to pick a favorite of yours as I’ve liked them all but the first one I purchased was Conceit and Concealment and it helped to drop me into the world of Jane Austen variations. Thank you for all your wonderful writing.
How very generous of you to share your works in honor of Jane’s birthday
I would love an ornament!
My favourite book of yours is still Mr. Darcy’s Obsession which I originally read back n 2010!
What a way to celebrate! I’ve read and own all your books except your latest . An ornament would be lovely.
My favorite is By Force of Instinct.
Happy Bday to Jane! So glad to celebrate the day with all her friends. 😊
I would LOVE to get an ornament – a welcome addition to my Austen bookcase for year-round display… (your books are already there)!
Thanks for the chance. ❤️
I own Under the Netherfield Mistletoe, and loved it! So I will ask for a chance to receive the ornament! I love so many of Abigail’s books, and probably the one I like best currently is Alone with Mr Darcy.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to win a copy of the Netherfield Mistletoe. I have enjoyed many of your books – particularly the fantasy and alternate universe novels. Thank you for writing them. And thank you for your offerings for Miss Austen’s birthday.
Wonderful giveaway, except I already own the 4 that are free today (LOL, always my luck!). Well, I’ll take my chances for the ebook I don’t already own. Many thanks!
Thank you so much. What an amazing birthday celebration!
I found The Darcy Brothers free on amazon US.
I have been wishing someone would give me a Jane Austen ornament for Christmas, but I think that is highly unlikely. Your daughter’s design is lovely. That would be my first choice if I were to win, but of course I would not say no to the Mistletoe book.
I think my favorite of your books is Conceit and Concealment (now I own it!)
Thank you for the giveaways and free books. I love so many of your books, but at this moment, I am in a fantasy phase, so I will state that “Mr. Darcy’s Enchantment” is my favorite. It has fantasy, but also some great scenes with those pesky Fitzwilliams! I would love to get a copy of the ebook. Happy Holidays!
I read and loved “Mr. Darcy’s Refuge,” and would love to win a copy of the e-book of “Under the Netherfield Mistletoe.” Happy Birthday to our favorite author, Jane Austen!
Would love either but top pick would be ornament. Read the book. So sweet. Nice read that didn’t take a lot of time from my holiday preparations.
My favorite of your books is “Alone with Mr. Darcy”, mostly because it was my first ever Jane Austen variation book! Once I started I didn’t stop 🙂 I’d love an e-book copy of “Under the Netherfield Mistletoe” and thank you so much for the free/discounted books! Have a great day 🙂
I love your stories & I hope that many new readers will go back & enjoy all your previous wonderful books! I am open to either gift if picked but would prefer “Under the Netherfield Mistletoe”. I hope that everyone has a wonderful week & holiday season!
All of your books are terrific, and I cannot choose a favorite!
I would love to have a copy of “Under the Netherfield Mistletoe”. Thank you for offering the giveaway today!
Hi Abigail, I’d love to receive the e book Under the Netherfield Mistletoe.
My favourite one of yours is Mr Darcy’s Refuge, I particularly love the scene where Darcy is throwing stones in the river and then Elizabeth writes to him and draws a picture of herself throwing stones in the river. I’m always excited when I see there is a new book of yours ready to be released and am really enjoying the Mage series.
Victoria Ashraff
Thank you for your gifts! I went ahead and purchased the 99 cent book on Amazon as I’m pleased to give you something back!
I’ve read a number of your books and appreciate them all. I’ve recently read “Mr. Darcy’s Refuge” and was very pleased at how Darcy’s and Elizabeth’s initial lack of communication was turned into a benefit for them both – that and a storm.
I’m glad that none of the books you’re giving away contain “mature themes” (though I expect that they will talk about mature themes like forgiveness, communication, and commitments).
I would love both. Happy Birthday, Jane!
Thank you for all the free goodies. but an even bigger thank you for the pleasure you’ve given me since I read your very first book, oh, so many years ago.
Happy birthday!! Thank you for sharing some of your books for free. I love all of your books. I would appreciate an ornament if I would be so lucky to be chosen. My favorite book of yours is By Force of Instinct.
Have a happy holiday!!
Happy birthday to Jane Austen! I’m interested in winning an ebook copy of Under the Netherfield Mistletoe. At first thought, my favorite book of yours is A Matter of Honor, as I remember thinking it was wonderful and my favorite back when I read it, but looking at the books of yours I own, I started re-reading Mr Darcy’s Enchantment and I recalled I really, really liked that one. *blush* It might actually be my favorite allowing for that I forgot it for a bit. Thank you for the free ebooks! Two were new to me.
What a wonderful way to celebrate Jane Austen’s birthday! Thank you! I would love either the ornament or novella; your daughter did beautiful work on the ornaments!
Thank you for your generosity, Abagail! We love all of your books. I would love the ornament and the ebook, if I’m not too late!
Merry Christmas to you and ours, and Happy birthday to our Jane!
Thank you for all the lovely gifts, I would love to get an ornament, I have far too many, but never enough.
Hello! Entering for the ornament please ❤️ . Although I wouldn’t mind either. I’m going to pick Mr. Darcy’s Obsession as my favorite (hard to do!) thank you!
Ornament please as I have (and love) all of the books!!
Thank you! I have enjoyed all those books, I would love a copy of the E book under the mistletoe, if I am so lucky.
I would love an ebook . Your novels are always entertaining. Happy holidays!
I would love to be entered for the ebook!! I’m a big fan of Jane Austen!!
I have enjoyed Mr Darcy’s Journey as an exciting re-read. I look forward to getting into more of your books!
I would love an ornament. I have enjoyed all your books. Perhaps my favorite is the Fitzwilliam Darcy, Mage series. Blessings and Merry Christmas to you. Thanks for sharing with us!
I would like the ornament.
I have all your books and their e-books (even The Rule of Reason!) except for your new novella ebook (Under the Netherfield Mistletoe). Now I need to look for it and have some leisurely reading next week.
