12 Days of Christmas ~ Day 2

Two turtledoves and dreams of their merry, merry Christmastimes at Pemberley or at their house in town. In early wedded bliss, perhaps – or surrounded by (more or less welcome) guests – or later, when there are children at Pemberley and the new custom Prince Albert had brought from his home country had begun to catch on.

Would you like a peek at what Pemberley might have looked like at Christmastime in the early days of Mr and Mrs Darcy’s marriage or later? (You might have to squint at the last picture a little and ignore the Ikea trainset 😊).

Happy Holidays, and I hope you’re having a lovely and relaxing time!

You must have unwrapped all your presents by now, so here comes another one:

From today until midnight PST on 30 December, the Kindle version of

FROM THIS DAY FORWARD, a tale of three Christmases at Pemberley,

is available on Amazon FOR FREE.

If you already have it, you could just download it anyway. I’m a compulsive tweaker, so I must have made a few changes to it over the years.

And while it’s downloading, follow this link for a musical Merry Christmas wish from Pemberley.

Thanks again for reading my posts in 2019, and have a wonderful New Year!

Merry Christmas, Joana! Thanks for the beautiful photos of Pemberley at Christmas (Lyme Park? Chatsworth? Sudbury Hall?). Maybe 2020 is the year we finally get to meet face-to-face!

    1. I’d love that, Anji! I do hope 2020 is the one! Doesn’t matter where, as long as we get to meet up.

I’m so glad you liked the photos. Quite a few of them are from The Vyne (1, 2, 6, 8, 9 and 15); #3 is from Osterley Park; 13, 14 & 16 are from Lyme Park and the rest from No. 1 Royal Crescent. It was a job to cut down and not post all my photos of country houses at Xmas :D. Sadly, I haven’t managed to see Chatsworth and Sudbury decked with boughs of holly, but I’ve got to fix that & get myself there next Christmas!

Hugs, Happy New Year and see you soon, fingers crossed!

We were at The Vyne two years ago, on our annual New Year trip to friends in Southampton. It was during the period when they were doing major work on the roof, so most of the interior was closed off to the public. The exterior was also draped in tarpaulins, so we couldn’t see that either! We did, however, get to go up on the walkways they’d set up for the public to look at the roof repairs in progress, and even got evacuated from said roof when the fire alarm went off! Maybe we can fit in another trip there to see it better this year, as we’re on our way south again on Saturday.

We actually passed very close to Subury Hall in September on a long journey across country from North Wales to North Norfolk (long story as to why) but didn’t have time to call in to visit.

I’m almost afraid to say that I’m hoping to get to Regency Week in June next year in case Real Life is listening!

        1. Oh yes, I remember you wrote about your trip to The Vyne and finding it in the middle of the roof restoration works. It’s all done now, so it’ll look a lot better if you can stop by. Such a shame that you couldn’t stop at Sudbury, but fingers crossed for next time, and for Regency Week too!! LOL you’re right, we’d better whisper in case RL is listening. But we shall conquer this & meet up one day, we shall!!
Safe travels on Saturday, dear Anji, and have a great New Year!

Thank you Joana! I love these photos and would definitely enjoy spending Christmas somewhere like this!
Those food pyramids are amazing (although it would be so tempting to take one from the bottom 😂😂)
I hope you and your family are enjoying your Christmas and wish you a very happy New Year. (You’ll be pleased to know that Elliot got his mango 😉)

    1. Hehe, I was wondering about that too, what if someone really, really fancied one of the sweetmeats from the bottom 😂😂?

Oh, bless! He’s such a love and that video was adorable!! I’m so glad Elliot’s Christmas wish came true :)). They’re so easy to please at that age!

Hope you and all your family had a good one, and here’s to a great New Year!

    Hello Joana,
what a cake! It’s looks like so special with the blue frosting. And the big towers of fruits, I wondered is it only for decoration? Thank you for the pictures, it gives myself ideas to change the table more inviting next time I have the family to visit. I have all your books, but it’s a nice reminder to read the stories again.
I’m waiting for the next…hope you love to write more in the future. I wish you the best for 2020 !

    1. I think few of those foodstuffs are real (just the oranges in pic #2, and maybe the nuts). I did see some gorgeous real-food displays in a couple of places (Fairfax House in York and the awesome Dennis Severs museum in London), but sadly photography wasn’t allowed in either one of those houses. Not that it made much of a difference, those pyramids of fruit and all those cakes & pies looked every bit as real as the real things. Amazing what coloured silicone can do 😀 .

I’m so glad you liked the photos, Simone, and that they inspired you! Thanks ever so much for the lovely wishes, for reading my books and for the encouragement to write some more 🙂 . Best wishes to you too, and have a great 2020!

Beautiful photos. That must be what ‘bullet pudding’ looked like (in the photo with the playing cards) which was in one of the stories from Yuletide. That was your story, was it not? The end of this holiday season is drawing very near, so I will wish you all the best for 2020.

    1. Yes, Michelle, I think so too, this is what the bullet pudding looked like. Maybe a little bigger if there were lots of kids willing to play? I was so excited when I saw that the bullet pudding was part of the Christmas display at No. 1 Royal Crescent a few years ago. Thanks for remembering my story in Yuletide! You’re right, it had a bullet pudding in it 🙂

Wishing you all the best for 2020 too. Here’s to a very happy New Year!

I saved all these “days of Christmas” blogs as I was busy with two cataract surgeries and family get-togethers. Love all the photos, Joana. I have read From This Day Forward. I am sure whoever won it enjoyed it. Happy New Year (belated).
