12 Days of Christmas, Day 11

Happy eleventh day of Christmas!

If we were going by the famous Christmas carol, today’s gift would be eleven pipers piping… however I suspect that nobody has much use for eleven pipers (or even one) these days. 😊 However, in keeping with the auditory spirit, I’m giving away something that I hope will be a bit more palatable to the Austenesque reader: Eleven audiobook codes for my Pride and Prejudice variation, To Conquer Pride!

You can find out a little bit about the book below, and you can also read an excerpt here.

To enter the giveaway, simply leave a comment on this post. Any comment will do, but if you’d like to share a little something about the holiday season, or any exciting plans for the New Year, I’d love to hear what you’ve been up to!

Winners will be drawn randomly on January 11th and announced on the JAV Facebook page on January 12th.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2020.

Until next time!

To Conquer Pride

The course of true love never did run smooth…

When Fitzwilliam Darcy departs Hunsford after his disastrous proposal to Elizabeth Bennet, he does not expect their paths to cross again. Indeed, knowing the lady’s true feelings for him, he makes every effort to see that they do not. But when a chance encounter leaves him stranded in an abandoned cottage with the one woman he can never have, Darcy quickly realizes there is more at risk than just Elizabeth’s reputation.

Elizabeth Bennet knows Mr. Darcy is the last man in the world whom she could ever be prevailed on to marry. Until the morning he hands her a letter, his countenance as dark and forbidding as the windswept sky. Now, trapped in a snowstorm with the one person she was certain she despised, Elizabeth is startled to discover that her feelings are not at all what she expected.

But is one night alone together enough to alter the course of their future?

Can any man as proud as Mr. Darcy be expected to offer for the same woman a second time?

In this tale of serendipity and second chances, literature’s unlikeliest couple must conquer pride, prejudice, and faulty first impressions in the elusive quest for their own happily ever after.

Oooh, exciting! One of the things I love most about Christmas is the quiet traditions of Christmas Eve. Really, it can be felt anytime, but there’s something sacred and hushed and still and holy about Christmas Eve, reading from Luke 2, and thinking about the very first and best gift of Christmas. It makes everything else fall away and shines as the brightest moment of each and every Christmas for me.

    1. Happy New Year, MeriLyn! That was beautifully phrased. Thanks for stopping by and best of luck in the giveaway.

  1. To Conquer Pride–that’s really what Pride and Prejudice is all about, isn’t it? Both Elizabeth and Darcy had to conquer their pride, admit they needed to grow and change, and do it! Have a lovely New Year.

    1. Yes! I completely agree! I think both Darcy and Elizabeth had to conquer pride AND prejudice to find their happily ever after. Happy New Year to you, Brenda, and best of luck in the giveaway.

It only takes good communication to have a better understanding of someone…thanks for a chance to win the audio, Happy New Year

    1. So true, Maria! It took Darcy and Elizabeth a while to get there but I think we’re all very glad they did. 🙂 Happy New Year and best of luck in the giveaway.

This book was one of my favorites for 2019. Plans for 2020: have some significant time at the pool, soaking up the sun and reading more great JAFF.

    1. Thanks so much, foreverHis! And your New Year’s plans sound lovely. 🙂 Best of luck in the giveaway.

Firstly, please don’t enter me in the giveaway as I don’t have audiobooks!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as I love it when Darcy and Elizabeth are stranded together or have an early marriage!
I’m praying for the fires to be extinguished in Australia as my daughter and her family live in north Sydney and I have cousins living in Adelaide and a friend near Brisbane!
Then I can concentrate on my TBR list? Well that and any new books that I absolutely HAVE to buy 😉.
Happy 2020 to all at Austen Variations 🎉

    1. Thank you so much, Glynis! Yes, I am also a big fan of Darcy and Elizabeth being trapped together (obviously), and the book I’m working on now is an early marriage scenario. 🙂 Also praying for all our friends in Australia and hoping the fires can be brought under control soon. Thanks so much for stopping by and wishing you a very happy 2020.

This is a wonderful book! Thank you for the chance to win the audiobook, as I love listening to JAFF as I walk or do chores. A goal for me in 2020 is to walk more and audiobooks are an incentive for me. Happy New Year!

    1. Thank you so much, Eva! That’s a goal of mine as well. And yes, audiobooks would make that so much more enjoyable. Best of luck with the giveaway!

Finally finished catching up on the 12 Days posts. If I haven’t wished you all a Happy New Year yet, then….Happy New Year to all of my lovely friends here, both readers and writers.

We spent our New Year holiday in Jane Austen’s home county, travelling down from Yorkshire to stay with friends in Southampton. Sadly, I didn’t get to visit any places associated with her, as I waa the only Janeite in the company of sometimes ten people 😢. Our major event this coming year, in less than four months’ time now, is our son’s wedding on 1st May. Then I shall become that awesome creature known as a mother-in-law!

Jennifer, please don’t enter me in the prize draw as I already have copies of your wonderful book in both electronic and audio formats.

    1. Thanks so much, Anji! And congratulations on your son’s upcoming wedding! What an exciting time. Wishing you a wonderful year.

For what is worth and thinking of the scene of their understanding, Mr. Darcy’s pride was not 100% conquered. Elizabeth did half of the job there. 😉
On the other hand, she did test his changed view of the world with the case of Georgiana’s future so they are even.

(Please don’t enter me in the draw as I’d like to give someone else the chance to get introduced to this beautiful story.)

    Happy New Year, Jennifer!

    1. Happy New Year, Alexandra! Yes, I think my title actually applies to both Darcy and Elizabeth. They both have to overcome some pride and prejudice (and many misunderstandings) to get to their happily ever after. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Now look here, madam, there are any number of people where I live who certainly do have a use for pipers. And not just us but pipe bands in Ireland, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, numerous other Commonwealth countries and especially Canada which has rather more people who would define themselves as Scots than Scotland has and a lot of world class pipe bands. Not to mention Nepal, which lends the UK some of her bravest soldiers and pretty good pipers. We need them most in Edinburgh in August, when the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo would not be half as impressive without them.

I have read that book and enjoyed it. Late to the conversation as I saved all these Days of Christmas due to being busy with 2 cataract surgeries on top of regular family and seasonal events. Great to read about all the generous give-aways. Happy New Year.
