Mrs Bennet Makes a Match: Novella Announcement

It feels like I was just recently telling you about a new release, and yet, here I am again! Today, I am happy to announce that Mrs Bennet Makes a Match will be released on Monday, 2 October. (You may have seen a date later in the month on Amazon; the release has been moved up a few weeks for scheduling purposes.)

I’ll be back in four weeks (12 September) to reveal the cover (spoiler: it’s super cute) and share an excerpt. For today, I have the blurb.

There is surely something about him to admire. I shall find it and use it to convince Lizzy she loves him—if she does not already.

Can a mother’s determined matchmaking make love prevail? When Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy returns to Hertfordshire and Elizabeth Bennet, the woman he loves, their relationship has changed since the previous autumn, when she despised him. Darcy is disappointed to be greeted by coolness, but he believes he understands her prejudice.

Elizabeth Bennet knows that any chance she had of finding happiness in marriage with Mr Darcy has been destroyed by Lydia’s elopement. Nothing suggests that he has any desire to rekindle the warmth between them that she felt at Pemberley. As much as they both long for each other, being together only increases the heartache. Mrs Bennet’s efforts at matchmaking are not subtle and, at times, are vexing. Will Mrs Bennet’s scheme work, or will it only push them further apart?

The story follows canon up to the point of Bingley and Darcy returning to Netherfield. As the blurb suggests, something piques Mrs Bennet’s interest in Elizabeth and Darcy’s interactions, and she develops a matchmaking scheme (possibly with the assistance of others—I’m not telling).

I had a great time writing Mrs Bennet, which is saying something! I wanted to take her from how I usually think of her and add a layer of depth. Since some of the story is in her point of view, it was an opportunity to explore what she thinks of her daughters and husband. Having said that, rest assured, the story does centre on Elizabeth and Darcy! There is a happily ever after (as always), I’d say low angst, and some humour along the way (I hope; I know writing humour is not my strength, but I’m trying!).

One final bit of information today: Mrs Bennet has a cat. I ❤️ Felly (the name is explained in the novella). My editor called her ‘a good girl’, and she certainly is.

Mrs Bennet Makes a Match is available for preorder. I’d love to know what you think—based on the little I’ve shared—and if you have any questions, I’ll do my best to answer them without giving too much away.

Thanks for reading!

Lucy

Looking forward to the release! Does MRs. Bennet get Darcy on board early on in the book?

You know… now you will have to include Felly in all your future stories 😉

Hmm..Darcy teaming up with Mrs Bennet. What an interesting notion! Felly might make a return visit. I do like writing cats and dogs into the stories. 🙂

I think it sounds great! Maybe Lady Catherine won’t be needed to convince Darcy of Elizabeth’s feelings🤔? I love low angst and I definitely love humour so this must be written for me?😉 Many thanks 🥰🥰

    1. But Lady Catherine does so *love* being of use! How could you rob her of the opportunity? 😂 Thanks, Glynis! 🌸

I definitely appreciate a story with low to mid-angst. Angst filled stories are so frustrating to read …having to wade through pages and pages of misunderstandings can get tiresome. I like the idea of adding some depth and new dimension to Mrs. Bennet. Her thought of “there must be something about him to admire” lays the foundation of your story….I like it and can’t wait for October 2nd.

    1. Turns out there can be more to Mrs Bennet that we usually think—or at least than I do. 🙂 I have a personal mission to explore more of the wonderful characters Austen gave us, and not just to make them not so likeable (as in my recent release and the Bingleys). Hope you enjoy the book! 🌻

Okay, Lucy Marin, do I need to take special precautions in my reading room? Maybe I should order a tank of oxygen, for when I lose my breath. I best put my order in early for the defib in case my heart stops. Gloves… I’ll definitely need gloves if my reader gets too hot to handle. Let me see… oh, I will also need burn ointment and bandages for those scorching scenes. I know you and I certainly want to be prepared. You always disturb my peace. Dang, I forgot to refill my cooking wines from the last story. Maybe I have enough time. I’ve just barely recovered my peace from your last launch and here you go again with another story. I’m too old for this. HA! Kidding, you know I am kidding. I love your work. I can hardly wait to read the excerpt and see the cover. Maybe I can tap into my Zen energy by then. I’ll need something. Blessings, my dear.

    1. I swear, this one is much easier on the heart (and fan) than A Matter of Prudence! It will also be my last new release of the year, so you’ll get a break from me disturbing your peace. I can’t account for what other authors get up to. 😂 Thanks so much! 😘

    1. My typing fingers have been busy of late! Haha. Thanks for commenting, Marie!

  1. Mrs. Bennet plus a cat? Count me in! I stand in awe of your ability to develop so many stories to entertain us, Lucy!

    1. I’ve decided that, whenever it fits, I will henceforth always include at least one cat in my stories. 😀 Thanks so much, Christina!
