Choose Your Own Adventure

Happy Monday, dear Janeites!

I was contemplating upcoming decisions in my life and what I believe would be to the chagrin of my younger self, things have NOT gotten easier since becoming an adult. Luckily, I have our dear Jane to help me escape.

I believe we all need a little escape, and often want to play the hero or heroine in our own stories. But how to do this?  Where to begin?  Pull up a chair, pour yourself a cuppa, and let me help you ‘Choose Your Own Adventure.’

Similar to previous charts, I have mixed up the possibilities and added a category or two.

First, let’s discover who your soul mate is.  Is it Robert Martin? Frank Churchill?  Or a mixture of Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy?

My soul mate is Robert Ferrars (ick) and he is a gentleman farmer! I imagine that his best characteristics would be that he is very fashion conscious. As a gentleman farmer, I hope he is on par with Mr. Bennet and will stay away from me as I try to forge futures for our children.

Next, let’s discover what YOU bring to the table. Can you sing? Dance? Paint Tables?

I am Georgiana Churchill and I embroider cushions! I imagine my life would be filled with happiness, but uncertainty as my father (Frank) is good at keeping secrets from those he cares about!

Who are you?  What are your accomplishments? What are the best characteristics of your ‘soul mate?’ Let us know in the comments.

  1. I love this so much!

Apparently, my soulmate is Charles Knightley, who is in trade. I imagine he’s a distant relative of George Knightley’s, and while Mr. Knightley is quite fond of him, Emma is always hesitant to invite him to call!

However, she does not mind my presence at her gatherings, for I am Marianne Weston, a very fine singer! As the daughter of her dear friend, Mrs. Weston, I am doted upon by Emma Knightley. Naturally, she tries to get me to marry Frank and Jane Churchill’s son, but I am determined to marry Mr. Charles Knightley, even if it does mean that we will live on Gracechurch Street. But I will not mind, for the Gardiners are our neighbors, and we attend our neighbor’s delightful soirees, which the Darcys also attend when in town! 🙂

So much fun, Anngela! Thank you!

    1. I love this, Christina! Thank you for being so delighted with it. You sure have your future mapped out for you! 🙂

Ok, this was very entertaining :). My soulmate is Charles Wentworth and he is in the regulars. I am, on the other hand, Marianne Collins and I am proud to say that I play the pianoforte 😉

    1. Garbiela, I am sure you spend many a sleepless night playing music to salve your soul while worried about dear Charles. 🙂

I’m unable to play this as there is no option for a purple jumper and I don’t think we have some of these ice cream flavours in the U.K.! 😱🤣😂🤣 So…..…. Let’s pretend that I’m Elizabeth Bennet (only too clever to believe Wickham’s lies), I’m the perfect partner for my hero who is Fitzwilliam Darcy, a gentleman farmer. 🤔😉🥰🥰. Yes I think that’s definitely right! 🥰🥰🥰 NEXT! 😂🤣😂

I’m Caroline Wentworth and I like extensive reading (well that’s easy). My soulmate is Frederick Darcy, second son. Well, I guess Mr Darcy being already taken, I should be grateful to be loved by A Mr Darcy! Although, I wonder, are all Darcys allergic to Carolines? 🤪
      Thank you for the adventure!

      1. Rosa, “Are all the Darcys allergic to Carolines” made me laugh aloud! I’m sure the distaste for Carolines would not extend to you. 🙂

    1. Glynis, you are hilarious! I am curious what flavors you don’t have in the UK? My guess is Moose Tracks and Gold Medal Ribbon. BUT, you played the game correctly because you did CHOOSE the adventure you wanted, and did not conform. (Very Elizabeth Bennet like). 🙂

That is weird. I am Anne Weston – should I not be married already? No, apparently I am going to throw myself away on a militia officer. I say throw myself away because I seem to have a dowry of £20,000. Can’t be the same Anne Weston then, since I would not have ever had to become a governess.

I forgot to mention that my militia officer is a strange amalgam called Frank Knightley.

      1. Kathleen, thank you for identifying your officer. We don’t want him to mislead any other young ladies. 🙂

Well, I am going to get an ironclad settlement before marrying him, ensuring my dowry remains settled on me. And if I find out he has ever exchanged one word with George Wickham the engagement is OFF.

    1. Kathleen, I imagine you could be the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Weston. We all have made foolish decisions in our youth, but I do hope you come to your senses before marrying a militia officer. 🙂

My Soul Mate is Christopher Darcy. I hope he’s as handsome as his elder brother. He certainly looks very dashing in his regimentals and his given name is much prettier. 😀
I hope I have inherited my common sense from my father (Captain Wentworth), instead of being as naive as my namesake Harriet Smith.
I’m glad I have such a large dowry, because knowing 3 languages won’t help us feeding our kids. 😀
    Thanks for this fun game!

    1. Sabrina, you are ever so correct about 3 languages being an impediment to feeding your large brood of children! I’m so glad you had fun with this. 🙂

Ok my soul mate is Thomas Wickham (and because my favorite ice cream is mint moose tracks then I get to blend the last options – haha) who is a steward who was a militia officer. Now for me: Charlotte Darcy who has a $20K dowry and plays the harp. Now to think about the rest of the details…..

    1. Glory, loved that you took your future in your own hands and combined your love of Mint Moose Tracks to create your true destiny! 🙂

Oh, what fun. Just reading through the comments was like jumping down a rabbit hole with story ideas. You guys rock. My guy was William Knightly and he is a Colonel. Heavy sigh. I love a man in a red coat and his regimentals make him look so handsome. He is the youngest of the Knightly brothers. George inherited, John went into the law, and William decided to serve King and Country. The church living at Highbury would have been given to him; however, he had always desired military service. Mr. Elton was awarded the church position instead.

I am Fanny Weston, the youngest sister of Mr. Weston, and love to cover screens. They are very beautiful and nearly everyone who sees them agrees. Mrs. Elton declares that Mrs. Suckling’s daughter does a better job. As if. Emma especially loves them and has one placed at every fireplace. Mr. Woodhouse wanted the pastoral scene for his room. I just love him.

    Thanks for this delightful adventure.

    1. J.W. your ‘As if’ had me dying! Mrs. Elton is a fool, obviously! So glad you enjoyed this adventure!

My soulmate is Henry Darcy who is in the regulars and looks striking in his uniform. I am Emma Wentworth and I play the pianoforte exquisitely just like my mother Anne. Plus I have thorough knowledge of music , singing, dancing, and the modern languages. I am so accomplished!
This was a fun game, Thanks for the amusing trip

    1. Jennifer, YOU won the lottery of accomplishments! Thank you for playing! 🙂
