It seems like I’ve been waiting forever for DANGEROUS MAGIC: A PRIDE AND PREJUDICE to come out. I wrote this novel last year, during lockdown, and I wanted to escape to a kingdom far, far away. What better place to escape to than Jane Austen’s England — don’t we all love to go there? — except that this Regency world has the added element of magic. As you can see on the book cover, I have a golden coach at the top. It’s a symbol of her journey away from the comfort of Longbourn and to a new life that is full of challenges, opportunities and — danger.
One upon a time, a young lady — Elizabeth Bennet — was forced to marry a powerful magician. Since it is a truth universally acknowledged that all powerful magicians in England are in possession of a fortune, that should have been reason for celebration. but Elizabeth Bennet did not like to be forced to do anything. Moreover, Mr. Darcy was most definitely not in need of a wife. He was in need of a fellow magician who would unite with him to defeat Napoleon’s magicians, and he was not happy about having to a) being obliged to marry a nobody from a place no-one had ever heard of, b) having to work in close quarters with a young lady who did not have the same illustrious education he had.
As might be expected of such a mismatch, things go wrong very quickly.
Luckily, this is a magical tale, so magic happens. The question is, can Elizabeth and Darcy learn to weave magic together before Napoleon’s magicians attack? And will they find love along the way?
Let the enchantment begin!

There is nothing like Elizabeth and Darcy and an amount of angst that you know is going to turn into a beautiful love story by the end. The plot sounds so intriguing and I can’t wait to read it. Darcy will make a wonderful magician. The excerpt leads you to a world of regency England where anything can and does happen.

Yes, it’s great to see the Regency period from a slightly different angle, Irene. Darcy is the perfect magician!
Congratulations Ms Fairview. thank you for sharing the excerpts. Looking forward to readign this book.( I wonder if Anne has any sort of magic and what shemay do with this forced bethrotal between ODC). Really excited to read the rest of the story.
Thank you for the chance to win a copy.

Anne does have magic, Buturot, but she doesn’t make an appearance in this book. [Well, she did, but the scene I wrote with her ended up being cut]. Maybe in the next one…
AT 11.30 pm I opened my computer to see if somewhere in Europe (I am from Switzerland) was already March 15 – but no, so I had to wait a bit and passed the time sleeping. I am so excited – though: my poor nerves !!!!!! (By the way: it is 8.30 am and Mrch 15th)

You’re welcome, Nicola, and thank you for your kind words. Yes, the cover evolved over a period of time — it went through lots of stages to get to this one.
This sounds like a great book! Thanks for the excerpts and the chance to win a copy!

My pleasure, Cyndy!
I do enjoy when Darcy and Elizabeth marry early! Obviously in this case neither is particularly happy with the situation but hopefully this will soon change? I especially love it when they join forces happily to defeat their enemies. I’m looking forward to being able to read this 🥰🥰🥰
Author
I do hope their situation changes, too ! 🙂 And I hope you get to read it soon as well.
Congratulations on your release day!!!
Author
Many thanks, Alexandra!
These excerpts are very intriguing and leave me wanting more. And wanting to know what type of magical lines they carry. Right now I’m leaning to fire for Elizabeth and earth for Darcy in terms of their personalities.
Author
Ah, Helen, I see you’re a seasoned reader of magic. I agree about fire for Elizabeth 🙂 As for Darcy, I’m not sure. As you’ll see, he doesn’t practice Elemental magic.
I have been waiting for this book to come out and saving my pennies for it. I look forward to reading it very much.
Author

You’re right, ForeverHis! It isn’t a new trope, but was lots of fun in this context.

Magically, Léa?
I already own the book, so I am not entering the drawing. It is truly wonderful! Seeing that it is Book 1, how many have you planned? Is there a publishing schedule for these future books? No pressure. Actually, I take that back. Yes, there’s pressure! Lol, congrats on a marvelous new world for us to explore.
Author
I’m stumbling under the weight of that pressure, Robin. I’m delighted you are looking for multiple books already. I have three planned. I do have a tentative publishing schedule but I can’t be specific yet, just in case!
Wow! I was surprised how Bingley’s character is so much stronger and Darcy is his usual self. I loved the line that Mary was tone deaf to mages rather than music. I feel so sorry for Elizabeth being rushed out of her home even if she knew it could happen. It is surprising that class distinctions still play a role when a twin mage is needed. I can easily imagine the battles between Elizabeth and Darcy. Thank you for the sample and giveaway.
Author
Well, it’s made Bingley more confident that he was picked as a Royal Mage, but there are still class issues that haunt him. I love that you noticed the Mary phrase, Eva. I like to add little subtle things like that. 😉
I’ve been looking forward to this since I first heard about it a couple of months ago. I’m glad it’s finally out! I’m looking forward to reading it and finding out how Elizabeth and Darcy learn to work together. It’s a great cover, too.
Author
Thanks, T C. The launch was postponed but it’s here now. Thanks for the positive input about the cover, as well.
