Today we’re celebrating Jane Austen’s birthday by taking you on a virtual tour of some of the special places in her life, and, of course, with a massive giveaway below! We’ve shown you pictures of Jane’s special places many times before, but this time you have the chance to look around, see the surroundings, and walk down the roads Jane Austen walked using Google Streetview. You can choose any of these four locations. Start by clicking on either the picture or the link below it, and then you can move and turn around by clicking and dragging your mouse (or using left and right arrows) anywhere in the image. Happy travels!
Virtual Tour of Jane’s Life
Chawton Cottage (The Jane Austen House Museum)
Jane Austen’s home for the last and most prolific years of her life, July 1809 until May 1817.
4 Sydney Place, Bath – Jane’s first home in Bath, 1802-1805.
Steventon Church (St. Nicholas Church, Steventon)
Jane’s father, George Austen, was rector here. Jane was born in the rectory (now gone) just down the hill and attended this church until 1801.

So glad you enjoyed the virtual tours. 🙂
Amazing and wonderful giveaways. You are all the best! I have enjoyed the Advent calendar. It’s been an unique blend.

Glad to hear you’ve enjoyed the Advent calendar. We always wonder whether people like the things we do, so it’s good to hear!
What a great post. I really enjoyed the tours. I live in the UK so won’t enter the giveaway. The last two e-books I won Amazon.com wouldn’t deliver saying they weren’t available here. Obviously a changed policy as I have had them previously. I don’t have audio books either.
Luckily I have most of the books anyway so not to worry.
I’m So looking forward to the rest of these fabulous posts.
Author
I’m sorry ebook giveaways haven’t worked for you. I’m going to try to look into that. Glad you enjoyed the tours and the posts!
US. The tours were wonderful. I want to see them myself. Thank you for the advent.
Author
I wish everyone could do the Jane Austen tour in person! I’m hoping someday they’ll do an indoor virtual tour of Jane Austen’s House, too.
Netherlands, It is nice to go on tour this way, especially sinds I haven’t visited these places jet.
The advent calendar is great!
Author
Thanks, so glad you’ve enjoyed it!
I have toured the grave site when we took a 2 week vacation to Great Britain and Ireland in Spring of 2004. Hard to take in all the history there much less all the famous people buried there. I do like the virtual tours, knowing I will not get there myself. Thank you for sharing. Thank you, Jane, for your sharing of your talents also.

I came up with the idea of virtual tours because I use StreetView all the time as a research tool. There are so many places and details that I could only have seen by going there that I can now see on my computer. It’s not the same as being there, but it’s awfully nice!
I love the Advent calendar this month! It is interesting to see the landscapes that inspired Austen. US
Love the virtual tour and the Advent Calendar daily postings! Love those cakes too!
Happy Birthday Jane!!
Don’t enter me in the giveaway as I have all the books offered! However, thank you for your generosity!

I am in the US
Thank you for all everyone’ has been doing for this special advent.
Loved the virtual tour. Awesome giveaway. I live in the United States.
Amazing to see places that had been existent during her times. (The places who had seen her :I may not be able to go there but this virtual tour gave me a glimpse of her life. I just started joining this group, thank you for the fun activities, upcoming events/books, for offering the discounted books and for sharing these places (I couldn’t) viist.
I so enjoyed seeing the places where Jane lived–and even was buried. So interesting! I like the looks of the pub across the street from her home on Winchester Road! 😉
I suppose that it becomes second nature in Britain to just go about daily life surrounded by places of literary and historical significance! Living in San Diego, we have very little that is truly “old” here; a few Victorian homes date back to the 1880s, but that’s about it. The San Diego Mission, the first church in California, was founded in 1769, and it’s still a functioning church; two of my friends are in the choir. But just living among places of historical and literary significance–what riches!!!
Thank you for this lovely post, Abigail!! And yes, I’m in the US.
Wishing everyone a lovely Advent and a joyous Christmastide!
~Susanne 🙂
Thanks for the virtual tour and giveaway. I live in the US.
This is so marvelous!! I also live in the USA!
Thank you for this advent calender. I hope all the posts will be at the website for some time after Christmas. Because I haven’t had the time to read or look at them all.
I’m from Denmark so international❤️❤️🤞🏻

You’ll still be able to see the posts. We might try to organize them a little.
Alas, my Fire tablet messed up and won’t take me to the proper Google maps, it stays “local” and I don’t know how to fix it! Hopefully I can try again on my work PC during the week. I’m in the US and already have all the books in pb prize #3.
I fixed the problem! Cool to see those sites.
Happy birthday Jane Austen ❤
Loved the virtual tour. Hopefully, one day, I will do it in person.
I am international.
I managed to get to London this past May and hope to make it back next year. We’ll see–but I would love to get out to the countryside on a Jane Austen tour. Thanks for the giveaway–fingers crossed!
I’ve read many of these books and love them! I am in the U.S., and my daughter and I are avid Jane Austen fans.

I think I actually saw Elizabeth walking a bit ahead of me, but she went into one of the homes before I could catch up with her. And I think I’m a fast walker. . .
What fun it was!
Thank you for not using Rafflecopter!
The virtual tours were SO cool. Thanks for the effort you put into this.
Great links to Jane’s places. It’s really beautiful how even a static image viewed thousands of miles away from the comfort of my computer still gives me a touch of that wonder and thrill one experiences when actually being in an historical place. I felt a bit of Austen over my shoulder as I looked at these images and it made me smile. So thank you!
I’m in the US. Great giveaways!
wonderful tour in honor of Jane’s birthday! (USA)
Happy Jane Day! I am so enjoying the daily Advent calendar goodies and the US giveaways! So many wonderful things to read and listen to! Thank you, Jane, for your amazing body of work that we are enjoying to this day!
These are lovely 360 degree views of wonderful places, which I’ve had the privilege of visiting; I hope those who haven’t, will make it there someday! I’d love to see the inside of her home in Sydney Place next time around, if you can get that; that’s not open to the public, I think, but there must be photos somewhere. You also might want to do inside views of the museum, Chawton House, and the Steventon Church, all of which are lovely.
I’m international, and can receive ebooks (since my amazon account is in the US); I can also receive regular books at my son’s address in the US and will get them eventually. Blessings for a lovely Christmas and Advent to you all!
I don’t know if it’s appropriate to say this here, but I just posted about Austen’s Advent, as it would have been happening in her church, on my blog at brendascox.wordpress.com –if it’s not appropriate to say that here, just remove it, please, moderator. I’m glad for your Advent celebration at this site!
What a wonderful gift to us all–a chance to see some of the most iconic sites associated with Jane Austen!
USA
I love your advent calendar. Thanks for the virtual tour and giveaway. I live in Canada.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JANE!!!!
Good ole US of A!
Very generous of all of you. Along with commemorating Jane’s birthday, today I also celebrate the Boston Tea Party which took place two years before she was born. A most auspicious date!!
I’m in England and have visited a lot of Jane related places but I haven’t been to Chawton or Winchester yet. The virtual tours are brilliant 🙂
THank you for this special Christmas gift!
Absolutely loved this!! I’m in the US but have most of these sites on my radar. I hope to visit them all some day. Thanks and happy birthday to Jane!!
wow! what a great addition to the already remarkable advent calendar – a virtual tour of Jane’s sites – how clever of you to think of it and be able to execute it!!
I have all the books…some both paperback and ebook, but would love a chance for the audibles (unless, of course, if it only for int’l). Thank you for the great collections offered – four readers are headed for a great Christmas surprise
What a great giveaway!!!

Author
This is the first year we’ve done the Advent Calendar. If it’s popular, we may try it again next year. 🙂
This is fabulous! I am enjoying this post and wish I had found the Advent Calendar sooner. I have visited Bath and have had the opportunity to see 4 Sydney Place as well as other places she has been or referenced in her works. I need to catch up and see the others in person someday! I am a US resident.
I desperately want one of the paperback libraries! I still can’t read books on Kindle or Nook. I must hold the pages in my hands. And around Christmas time, my book budget takes a serious hit!
I very much want one of the paperback libraries. My book budget takes a serious hit over the holidays. And I MUST hold the pages in my hands to fully enjoy the experience. I just can’t adapt to technology.
[Located in the US]… I loved the photos and tour information. Wow! Those cakes were too beautiful to cut. I don’t do audio books but wish to thank the authors for the generous give-a-way selections. I’m sorry that our international friends cannot participate in the e-books. Surely Amazon can do something about that soon. I’m sure it has something to do with world publication royalties or some something like that. Blessing during the Holiday Season in the manner in which you celebrate.
What a lovely assortment of Jane-esque books! I’ve put them all on my wish list, just in case I don’t manage to win (& of course I can’t win them all.) I’m in the US, so am hoping for a paperback set, but will take any of them, with gratitude!
