Cover Reveal for Particular Intentions and giveaway! — 204 Comments

  1. So happy I’m up late tonight! Now I can dream of what happens as Lizzy continues her escape from Mr Darcy. This is a very intriguing story and I hope you’ll have it ready for publication soon. I for one can’t wait!!

    • I had a great time with this scene, but I didn’t want to give away whether she makes it out or what happens if she does. I have to leave something for you to enjoy later πŸ™‚ Thanks, Lynn!

    • I just love the look on Darcy’s face when he realizes Elizabeth doesn’t like him (He has a look on his face in my head at least!) Thanks, Patty!

  2. This sounds great – looking forward to the release of the book – I have all your books and I love them

    • Caroline is a bit of a hot mess! LOL! As for the branch *shrugs* you’ll have to wait to find out πŸ˜‰ Thanks, tgruy!

    • I know! I was evil leaving you there, wasn’t I? I just love that scene but didn’t want to give it all away. Thanks, June!

  3. no wanting to presume but did Caroline try and succeed in compromising Darcy and did he refuse to marry her? Can’t wait to find out

  4. I can’t wait for this one to be released. This was so much fun to read because it sounded like something Elizabeth would do, and it was nice to see Miss Bingley overplay her hand. She will be so annoyed when her nasty little plan fails. I think she is a very foolish woman to have told them what she was planning, and it surprised me that she was aware that Darcy was never going to marry her. In canon she would never have believed it and she certainly wouldn’t have planned to arrange a compromise for Elizabeth, thereby ensuring she would never be able to marry him herself. But as Austen reminds us, angry people are often unwise, so this works very well. I have often thought that Miss Bingley, while not overly intelligent, should have been smart enough to realize that Darcy was never going to marry her, and that she should move on before she forced him to cut her. Luckily for us, she was not, so this scene was a delight to read. I can’t wait to see how all this plays out.

    • There’s a few chapters before this, so you’re only getting a tiny glimpse of the story really. I’m sure it will make a bit more sense when you read the rest. Thanks, Mari!

  5. Thank you for sharing this with us. This was a great excerpt to read. I am hoping that Elizabeth gets down from the tree in time to wave good-bye as Miss Bingley’s carriage passes.

    • Just imagining it gave me the giggles. I’m so glad everyone has enjoyed it as well! Thanks, Catherine!

  6. Wow Leslie!
What a wonderful, intriguing excerpt! And yes, you don’t play fair! Leaving us ( and Elizabeth) out on a limb!
    Very excited to read this!!
    Thanks for sharing!!

  7. Ooh I can’t wait! And thanks for making me aware of Regency week – I know where I will be going next year. I can’t imagine my poor hubby will be singing your praises though!

    • I’ll try to survive your dear husband’s disapprobation πŸ˜‰ I definitely plan on being there, so hopefully, I’ll see you there! Thanks, Susannah!

  8. Elizabeth, my all-time favorite character!! I secretly think she was a real person, but I would never say that aloud. πŸ˜‰ Good luck!

    • Oh, I’m sure she was at the very least a combination of people Jane knew. When I read Jane Austen’s letters, I’m struck by her descriptions of people. I can see her characters in some of them. Thanks, Karen!

  9. OH…the thought of Elizabeth being stuck on that branch and even if she goes back she wont have her slippers….
love it but what a tease. Now I cant wait for the release!

    • That’s true! If she goes back, she’s barefoot. She would be caught with Darcy barefoot! Talk about ruining your reputation! Thanks, Theresa!

    • I do tend to do that. I have a new editor and she’s learning about my bad habit of leaving a cliffie at the end of a chapter. She gets a bit frustrated with me for it. πŸ™‚ Thanks, Kristine!

  10. Oh this sounds great!!!! Can’t wait to read it (just got done re-reading A Matter of Chance). We’re going to be well supplied with new books it seems between all you and thank you so much for it!!!

    • I hope you enjoyed A Matter of Chance! We do all seem to be coming out with books around the same time, don’t we? Thanks, Megan!

  11. The cover is gorgeous! And that chapter, wow! Caroline is being evil as usual and Elizabeth is not just an excellent walker she also is quite adventurous… I was expecting a hidden passage not a tree branch! Can’t wait to read more. And yes, poor Darcy, what a way to find out about Lizzy’s feelings.

    • No, no hidden passages. I definitely wanted something a bit dangerous. Darcy had to be able to object and it had to give him a reason to really think. What would Elizabeth do to avoid marriage to him. Thanks, Kim!

  12. Thank you for sharing. Great scene and the blurb on the cover sounds very intriguing. Can’t wait to read.

  13. Oooooh! Delicious! Saint Caroline of the Stupid Self-defeating Ideas. This one sounds like it ends to be on my Kindle soon!

  14. Great excerpt! Miss Bingley is quite the little devil, isn’t she?

Thanks for the wonderful giveaway! So many goodies! πŸ™‚

    • Miss Bingley has her own agenda, I suppose. Desperation hasn’t necessarily worked so far. LOL! Thanks, Pam!

  15. I really love the artwork on the cover of the book – her dress is so beautiful and those flowers… you picked well πŸ™‚

    • Thanks! I loved the painting when I found it. It wasn’t painted until the 1870s but when you see the entire painting, she’s very Regency. Thanks, Nicola!

  16. The book cover is exquisite! The sheerness of the sleeves shimmer like the flowers in the basket and the embroidery on the material blend with the flowers. Love the excerpt. What happened to make Caroline actually lock the door so Darcy and Elizabeth are forced into a compromising position and probably forced to marry? It’s not like Caroline to give up trying to put herself into a compromising position with Darcy. Thank you for the giveaway.

    • Hmmm…Some things happened before the beginning of the book and some since the book began. It’s a long story πŸ™‚ Thanks, Eva!

  17. Your stories are some of the very best and I have read them multiple times. I eagerly anticipate this next book as the snippet I read was intriguing and delightful. Do you have an expected release date? I will put it on my calendar.

    • I am always slow to give a release date. Sorry about that! Once I get to formatting and line up some proofreaders, I’ll get that date up. Thanks so much, Linda!

  18. How very sneaky of you that no one knew this was coming. But I can see your reasoning based on the comments so far (and my own wishes). Once you let a little out, we readers are impatient for more! It sounds like a very intriguing book and I wish you a speedy process getting it ready for publication. Can’t wait to find out what happens!

    • Some is impatient readers and sometimes I get a bit funny about telling bits and pieces. With this one, I suppose I wanted to be sure it was mostly ready, at least, before I began giving out peeks. Thanks, TLeighF!

  19. Evil, evil woman! Oh, did you incorrectly assume I was speaking of Miss Bingley? Heavens, NO!!! Leaving us like that, dear author is deliciously evil. When does this masterpiece launch itself into society? Very soon, I hope.

    • Shouldn’t be too long! I knew I would have people cursing me, but I’m a big girl! I just didn’t want to give it all away! Thanks, Joy! πŸ™‚

  20. I love reading variations and this one is so different. I really want to see where the story goes. Please let us know the publishing date. I can hardly wait to dig in!

  21. Caroline angry is far from wise. Of course, is she ever wise when it comes to Darcy? Wonderful excerpt. I am very intrigued. Thank you for the fun giveaway.

  22. Absolutely love the cover! What a great premise…what’s the expression…’there is no wrath like a woman scorned’! Yes, you have been busy with all your trips and visiting gift shops! Thank you so much for the wonderful giveaway!

  23. Oh what an amazing excerpt! Great cliff hanger (branch hanger?)
Lovely cover art as well! Happily awaiting what surprises you have in store.

  24. Leslie, I just love your books and eagerly anticipate each of them. That was such a fun ‘teaser’ you gave us; Miss Bingley was just as evil as ever and Elizabeth as impertinent as ever and Darcy as ‘stoic’ as he usually is!

  25. Yikes, this is a *bunch* of replies!!

I loved the excerpt, and I’ll have to save my pennies for a Kindle copy; I want to read it all *now*!! πŸ˜€

Thank you for this lovely excerpt; I am really, really looking forward to reading the book in its entirety when it’s released.

    Congratulations, Leslie!! πŸ˜€

    • I’m having a wonderful time in England. We haven’t even done most of what we hoped when we arrived and haven’t stepped foot out of the UK, but have still had a blast. Thanks, Jenny!

  26. I can’t wait for this to be finished and then finished on my Kindle so I can know the outcome. Lizzy was always good at climbing up and down trees and this must be no exception. I could just vision her coming down and the look on Darcy’s face as she nearly breaks her neck!. Caroline is always in the middle of the mix to stir up trouble but here she is helping Lizzy. How exciting!
Thank you for the giveaway and I don’t think you will need any luck in making it a best seller!

  27. I’m looking forward to reading this one. I went straight to Amazon to see the projected publication date, but it’s not there yet. Your Rain and Retribution is one of my all-time favorites, and one of the few I re-read occasionally.

    • Oh, I’m sorry! I need to get going on getting it uploaded. As soon as the editor is done with it, I’ll get the preliminary copy up and get the pre-order going. Thanks, Carol!

  28. Oh dear, now you have me hooked. I can only imagine Darcy’s face as Lizzy climbed out on that tree limb and I’m sure it was a mix of “Wait… what the…” and “Hello, NURSE”

    (you tease)

  29. Glad to have read the sneak peak! Oh that Miss Bingley… It sounds like you have written her with all the best nastiness possible lol … Can’t wait to read!

  30. I love the excerpt. I am so Looking forward to reading this book. Lizzy is out on a limb. I Wonder If Darcy will follow her. The cover is beautiful. Thank you for the generous give away.

    • I’m so glad you like the cover! I stressed while trying to find a portrait that I liked. Thanks, Deborah!

  31. My I can’t wait. I have all your books and I enjoy your style of writing. Please continue to post the progress of this book. I can’t wait to buy it. Thank you for your talent.

  32. Caroline helping Darcy? What a novel idea! I love how Lizzy climbed out of the window and left him with solid proof that she is in no way mercenary regarding marriage. I can’t wait to read this intriguing novel.

    • She just doesn’t realize she’s helping Darcy! We’ll just have to wait to see if it works or not. Thanks, Kumi!

    • Thank you so much, Claudine! I’m so excited to finally have it written and so close to publication. I’ve been dreaming of this one for a year now. I was telling Abigail and Susan about this scene last year. It’s gratifying that I finally have it all down and getting ready to go. Thanks again!

  33. Ah, what a tease! You left me definitely wanting more! Congrats on your upcoming release. The cover is beautiful. Can wait to find out what happens!

  34. Wow Leslie I had no idea you were so close to finishing a new book. Love the excerpt but I cant help hoping that Elizabeth has to get back into the library and has to marry Darcy. And that she soon discovers how totally gorgeous and loveable he is???? Whatever I am definitely going to be reading this one 😊😊

    • Well, Elizabeth has to figure that out one way or another or it wouldn’t be much of a story. LOL! She’ll get there! Thanks, Glynis!

  35. I can’t wait to read it! I’d never have thought that Caroline would “help” Elizabeth and Darcy!

  36. That looks like oodles of fun! And not just a little cruel to leave us dangling right there with Lizzy. Literally. Ha! Looking forward to reading your new gem! πŸ™‚

  37. The new book sounds VERY interesting, and thank you for a chance to win a prize. I love the P&P variations.

  38. I love to see Miss Caroline get into trouble, and I’m reading another P&P where the wench does get what she deserves. This book is by another lovely author, and I’m mostly enjoying it.

    • I think we all like to see Caroline get told off or put in her place. Hope you enjoy your book! Thanks, Ann!

  39. Could you possibly release this like today (lol). I was actually laughing out loud in the beginning and end of the excerpt. I can so imagine Elizabeth climbing trees when she was younger, so of course she would go out the window and onto a tree limb. The cover is beautiful by the way.

    • You want the entire thing beta’d, edited, and proof-read! Trust me! I love the enthusiasm, though. Quite a compliment! Thanks so much, Amanda!

  40. Oh no I shouldn’t of read I have to wait for the book so many scenarios running round in my mind..but love can’t wait to read it all..

  41. Too many wonderful Darcy and Lizzy books, so little time… not original, but I’m at a point I don’t want to read anything else!

  42. Cannot wait for your new book. Love the excerpt. Elizabeth climbing out the window isn’t a surprise, but Darcy is shocked I’m sure. Sure hope she doesn’t fall. Caroline is angry enough to lock Darcy and Elizabeth in the library, she will not realize the benefits. She’s as crazy as a loon.

    • Caroline is desperate and angry. She saw an opportunity and didn’t think it through. Thanks, Carol!

  43. Oh, yea!! I’m so excited! The cover is lovely and the sneak peek even lovelier. Can’t wait for the release!

  44. I eagerly await the new story – love Jane, a woman born before her time, or then again, maybe not. So excited about your site!

  45. Yummy! Definitely going for this one, one way or another. Looks like a very enjoyable read. Many thanks for posting this tantalizing excerpt, and for offering a giveway.

    • Shown her desperation πŸ™‚ Not that her desperation is really any different than usual. LOL! Thanks, Debra!

  46. Ooh yay! The cover is lovely. I can only imagine what Darcy’s thinking and feeling, watching her literally go out on a limb to get away from him! Lol Caroline’s so nasty. Joke’s on her, though – eventually.

    • Yup, his face was what gave me a giggle when I first imagined the scene. Joke is always on Caroline in some form or fashion. Thanks, Monica!

  47. The cover is beautiful. The snippet is intriguing and I want to read more. Can’t wait for it release. Thanks for hosting the giveaway.

  48. What a wonderful scene, you got me hooked. Cannot wait for the rest. My kindle is ready too. 😎 I love the cover.

  49. Ahhh!!! this looks amazing Leslie!!! Can’t wait to read the whole story. The excerpt was so funny!! Great job! And as has already been mentioned the cover is beautiful!!! Can’t wait to know what the dangers surrounding Mr Darcy are …

    • Olga!!! I’m so glad you liked the little glimpse. I definitely got a giggle imagining this scene. Thanks so much!

  50. Love it! Imagine Caroline trying to force Elizabeth and Darcy to get hitched. Thanks for the sneak peak–can’t wait to read it all!

    • It was a strange idea, but I couldn’t resist going for it. LOL! I’m so glad you like it. Thanks, Wendy!

  51. The except makes this already sound of particular interest…nothing like intrigue mixed with compromise mixed with romance and misunderstandings. Caroline seemed very provoked but to take such action which is in opposition to all her previous efforts??? I do like the cover.

  52. This is definitely going on my “must read” list. I’m intrigued to find out what led clueless Caroline to finally realize that she would never be mistress of Pemberley, and if that branch is going to hold Lizzy’s weight.

    Lovely cover.

  53. I received my free package and I just loved it. I can’t wait to read more of your works. I am really anxious to read your new book ‘Particular Intentions’. Please can me to your mailing list so that I can watch for the release date.
