Release Day for The Earl’s Conquest!

Today, The Earl’s Conquest is available and it’s a rather unusual feeling. I’m happy to have it finished and I think that I’m proudest of this book to be honest. I will be curious to see how the readers feel once they’ve had a chance to read it!

Now, I know those who have only read the preview I posted a while back must have questions, so that is what today’s post is all about. I am going to answer some questions about The Earl’s Conquest, and then you’ll have the opportunity to ask more or comment.

So, let’s get started with the blurb!

Fascinated upon a first acquaintance, the Earl of Matlock is a determined suitor, but Rebecca Fairchild is not so certain. The earl is kind, yet he is always so frustrating and stubborn! He is not what she had planned or what she ever imagined in a partner. Other ladies have also laid claim to the handsome Lord Matlock despite his preferences. Can he convince Rebecca he is her future or will other forces stand in the way of their happily ever after?

A prequel to An Unwavering Trust!

I just loved Grandmamma and couldn’t let her go, so I wrote her love story!

Now for the questions!

  • Who are the main characters? Rebecca Fairchild and Lord Matlock (Gerald Fitzwilliam) though we do have Darcy and Elizabeth because Grandmamma has to tell the story to someone!
  • What is the time period? Grandmamma takes us back to 1757
  • Is there angst? Yes, but I wouldn’t say it’s stressful.
  • Are there sex scenes? Sorry to those who like these, but it’s a courtship tale. I wanted to challenge myself to pull off sexy without the sex and this is part of the result.
  • Other original characters? There are quite a few as we have the Fairchild family as well as Gerald’s sister.
  • Is it influenced by P&P? Absobloodylutely! I am certain you’ll recognise quite a few parallels while reading as well as some Jane Austen quotes from P&P as well as Persuasion.
  • Any real locations referenced in the book? The book takes place in Wiltshire in southern England, but I used Castle Acre Priory in Norfolk for the priory in the story. Everything else is simply in the mind of the author
  • Formats? Paperback, Kindle, Nook, Kobo, iBooks
  • How many chapters? 20
  • Paperback size? 6×9, 184 pages (12 pt font), The Kindle has a 2 chapter preview of An Unwavering Trust that I didn’t put in the paperback to help keep the price down. That is the only difference between the two files.
  • Is it enrolled in Kindle Matchbook? Yes, the Kindle is free with the purchase of the paperback.
  • Word count? 46,815
  • Is there a follow-up? No, this is just a novella I wrote because I wanted to explore Grandmamma’s romance. It ties in with An Unwavering Trust, so if you haven’t read that book, you might want to after, but it’s not a necessity.
  • What are you writing next? The muse is stuck in a modern short story I wrote some time ago. I’m considering expanding it. The muse is a fickle woman though. We’ll see where she is when I sit down to actually plot and write!
  • Who did the cover art? The painting is Portrait of a Lady by Thomas Hudson. I found it when looking for fashion inspiration on Pinterest and fell in love with it! The cover design was done by me.

I absolutely loved An Unwavering Trust and am curious to see grandmamma’s story came about. She is such a spitfire. Did you base her character upon anyone you know? I am so looking forward to reading this story.

    1. I actually didn’t base her on anyone I know. She is kind of how I picture Elizabeth maturing and had a great deal of fun with her. Thanks, Deborah!

        I loved Unwavering Trust.

        1. Thank you!

  1. Congrats on the new release, Leslie. Didn’t have the chance to get An Unwavering Trust but I do hope reading the prequel will be good. Thanks a lot

    1. You can read this one on its own. You might eventually want to read AUT for a bit of closure on one bit, but it’s not necessary. Thanks, Luthien!

Congratulations and Good Luck!! The cover is beautiful. I love the fact that we are being told an entirely new couple’s love story pre-P&P, but tied into the P&P we all know and love. We have read bits and pieces of the Fitzwilliams story in various fan-fiction tales, but a whole book focusing on them is a real treat!

    1. I’m so glad you’re excited about it, rae! I don’t know what it was, but I really got interested as I was writing An Unwavering Trust. It was so much fun tying it all together, too! Thanks so much for stopping by!

I just recently discovered JA pastiches, and it looks like everybody’s way ahead of me. How do I read the preview? Thank you and best wishes for success.

    1. If you look up the book on Amazon, there is a free preview that is longer than I posted here. Just click on where it says “look inside.” Welcome to the wide world of JAFF and thanks for the well wishes!
