C. Allyn Pierson and Muzzy (The Beast)

C. Allyn Pierson is the pen name of Carey A. Bligard, an Iowa physician and long-time fan of both Jane Austen and Regency history.  Although she read Pride and Prejudice in her youth, it was not until she had an English au pair living with her who was in love with Mr. Darcy that she looked at Jane Austen’s masterpiece again. She was hooked.  When her eldest son left for college she read a retelling of Pride and Prejudice and realized that she had a very definite idea of how she saw the future of the Darcys and the Bennets.  Pierson put her laptop in her son’s now empty bedroom and secretly wrote away, not revealing the existence of her book to anyone until it was finished and she was ready to look at publishing. Her husband was all astonishment when she told him but encouraged her to publish.  She self-published her book under the title And This Our Life: Chronicles of the Darcy Family and it was picked up by an agent and subsequently sold to Sourcebooks.  The Sourcebooks editors felt that the story would be better if told from Georgiana’s point of view, and Pierson quite agreed with them. She virtually rewrote the story, with new material and an exciting new plot and her editor was filled with delight.  It was released as Mr. Darcy’s Little Sister on September 1, 2010.

Pierson lives with her husband and three dogs (one gigantic Newfoundland, known commonly as The Beast, one tiny, elderly Yorkshire terrier who does not slow down enough to appear in pictures, and a new family member named Genghis, who is a Shih-Tzu mix) and practices Dermatology full-time.  She has also traveled all over the world doing medical mission trips, including China, The Philippines, Thailand, Kenya, and ten+ trips to Central America. When she has spare time she reads, plays the piano and violin, reads, crochets her own designs, and reads. Her plans for the future include several more Austen sequels and a modern mystery series.

In addition to Austen Authors, Pierson is a life member of the Jane Austen Society of North America and the Romance Writers of America, and gives workshops on pre-20th Century medical care.
